Crickets EVERYWHERE

So, I got our first box of 3/8" crickets from Ghanns today. 500 of them. And after I opened the box, I decided that the tub I had for them wasn't big enough, so I thought "how fast are crickets...really?" And dashed upstairs to grab the bigger tub for them. ACK! When I came back down to the kitchen they were EVERYWHERE!

EWWWWWWW  :banghead:    :?

So - a couple of lessons were learned. And the kids and I spent about an hour catching crickets. Bwahahahahahahaha I'm a noob.

The adventure continues...but it wouldn't be as much fun if it (I) was normal and boring. :D

Similar thing happened to me before but, it was with 300 small feeders. Came home from work and our cats had the cricket keeper on its side with the door open, OMG they were everywhere and we literally were catching them for 4 days after the big spill happened.

UGh, that sucks. XD I had one of my circket bins covered with screen and kept on with ducttape and when I was away, the duct tape had come loose and the screen fell into the cage and luckily it wasn't in the thing for long, but I spent quite a long time finding them around my room.
I had to make sure every single one was put back in.... crickets in my bed would be terrible...
I'm not sure which one I would have preferred... Ant or Cricket infestation... I choose crix. :D

Ants or crickets...hmmm.... LOL neither but, I think depending on the ants then I would choose them, you know if they are just sugar ants. Cause crickets will eat you if they are hungry, and sugar ants? I am not positive but, I don't think they would eat you.

Yeah, they were sugar ants. Had them infest my room twice! And good point about the crickets, but their easier to find than tiny black ants are....And crickets didn't get into my gecko's cage at 8:00 PM and making me clean it before my movie. XD And crickets die easier than ants, too. :D Even if the ant is 1/5 the size of the crickets. DX

I HATE crickets :( I've got the tiny black ones...

First I dropped them into the tank with Oz, had to take him out and catch all couple hundred of 'em..
Then I didn't press the lid on their container down properly before putting them in my drawer... later on that night.. cricket infestation in my drawers..
Today.. they escaped out of the tank and onto my carpet. Ten minutes of vacuuming + evil laughter ensued!

I'd love to get Dubia Roaches but they don't sell them here in Ireland as far as I can tell. Just crickets and mealworms ( I stay clear of the later ).

Yup. I couldn't figure out why on earth I had crix all over the house and went to inspect the bin and the little buggers had chewed out

LOL I cut a round hole in the side of the box and shake them out into my cricket holder. A few weeks ago, I went to put the crickets back on the shelf...and the bloody lid came off. So like you I had crickets EVERYWHERE...and then my filter on my vacumme was really stinky after and had to be thrown out. I totaly sympathize!

I think I've passed the gag reflex stage of crickets. :puke: Last night our cricket keeper (a 30 gal rubbermaid tub) was REALLY stinky. So, I figured that I was doing something quite wrong, and spent last night figuring out how to fix it. :study: So, today I transferred the live crickets, food, cardboard etc. to a temp container. Cleaned out the dead crix and cut vent holes into the tub. Got the wire mesh hot glued on, put the packing tape ring around the top (slippery so they can't, theoretically, climb out) and then put together more cardboard, feeding area etc. Right in the middle of me transferring the little yummies back to their new, clean, vented, well stocked "home till you're eaten" my stomach growled. LOL A week ago I could barely keep from yakking when messing with them. haha! Now, I'm not saying that this makes me a pro, but I hope that it makes me less of a noob. Toothless watched the goings-on closely, so I gave him a couple of crix that were injured in the transfer (minus a leg, etc). I'm sure that there'll be something else to learn tomorrow. :D

(now I just hope that my crickets are not as industrious as spurlee01's I told them "no chewing on the mesh!" LOL)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
