Yeah, that surprises me that a breeder would say crickets are better. He might use crickets also because you never know what the customer will end up using and beardies can get spoiled easily. When I first started feeding dubias to my little lizard, he stuck his nose up at crickets for a long time.

As far as I know it's ok to feed them to a baby, just use the same caution as you would with any feeder. Don't feed him anything much bigger than the space between his eyes. As with anything, this is all subject to opinion so do some research and ask around and ultimately just do what you're most comfortable with.

sure, everyone's entitled to their opinion. this breeder may like crickets better than dubia for one reason or another. that doesn't change the fact that dubia are a more nutritious feeder. it's kind of bold of him to outright say that crickets are better without anything to back it up. and yes, they can be given to babies. just follow the same "no bigger than the space between their eyes" rule.

i mean this guy was nice. he wasn't like "you should do this".. we asked him about it and he said this is my personal opinion and he gave reasons why. i just thought i'd ask advice on here as well.

Dubia aren't the only good roach out there too though. The only reason they're so popular on here IMO is that they're so easy to tell the sexes apart without touching them. But typically crickets are good, but there is so much more out there. They key is variety. No single feeder is a hands down winner, everything has its pros and cons. I myself breed Discoids and Superworms. Granted my girl is usually lazy after getting supers for a little while and stops trying to chase her roaches... what a bum.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
