cricket egg laying issues

Im having issues getting my crickets to lay eggs on peat moss. I moisten it every night, but for some reason I think they are dropping all the eggs in the crates. I see the crix digging in it, but still lay eggs in the crates. can anybody tell me what I might be doing wrong?

temp - 70s-90s
open (screen) ventilation roof
chick start ~ ground corn feed
crystal water cubes
~300 breeders in egg crates in a 40 gallon container
