I have had my beardie for about a month in a half and whenever I go to pick her up she runs away from me. Today when I was trying to pick her up to give her a bath I swear she would have had a heart attack if I would have kept trying to pick her up. I gave her a brake than tried again. After she ran from me I caught her and than she calmed down. I made sure that I was not reaching for her in places that she could not see me. I would put my hand right in front of her face. Than after I gave her her bath I figured I might want to try to spend more time with her so while I was holding her and doing my homework out of no where she jumps off of my computer desk. She is walking ok and is not actinglike she is in pain at all but it just kind of scared me. I have also noticed that whenever she is in her viv she has a black beard but after I chase her and get her out of her viv her beard goes away. Does anyone know maybe why my beardie is so weird because I am new at this and she is still very small I measured her today and she is about 9 inches including her tail. Sorry for so many questions I just do not want to give her a heart attack everytime I want to hold her. Any advice would be greatly appriecated. Killed the word sorry.

I think you might be a little more scared that she is! Your baby is well... a baby. Pick her up with confidence and hold her until she stops squirming. She might just have an abundance of energy and she is a baby so her first thought is to run. This is a natural reaction (instinct) that is instilled within them from birth. This is a predatory defense to escape from danger in the wild. Trust me, many of us go through this, but with time and devotion, you will have a sweet, docile lizard. They are smart, and they will learn very soon that you are their best friend.

That is good because I did not want to have a beardie that did not like to be held. I love holding her it is just a challenge to get her out of her cage and I am afraid that I might hurt her. Thank you so much that makes me feel better that I am not the only one that has or is having this problem. I was wondering why does she beard when she is in her cage but as soon as I take her out no matter how frusterated she might be at me her beard goes away. She is in the middle of a shed on her tail and it is starting on her feet.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
