Converting furniture to viv. ??'s about Sliding doors, more

So I dont know exactly which is the best type of glass/plexiglass is best to use. Is oil paint toxic (i'm repainting the furniture)? How do I wire lighting (heat bulbs) in the viv? How do I go about making sliding doors for the front of the cage?

We used two sections of an old wall unit for Oliver's enclosure. The local window screen shop made us a custom screen with the bottom half fixed and the top half slides down. It works well here in Southern California.
