Confused about Solar Glo

There is all this discussion about the Exo-Terra Hagen Solar Glo MVB. The posts only talk about the UMB being bad. OK, I am sooo new to all of this. I already took my first 2 bulbs back because the manager at Petsmart suggested the Exo-Terra Solar Glo instead (says nothing regarding MVB) to do the job of UVA and UVB. Are these the same bulb? What is MVB? I will take these back tomorrow if necessary. I can get the , is it, repti-glo 10? this is specifically UVB, what do I choose for UVA? I want a healthy beardie.

From what is sounds like it is indeed the same bulb.

What is MVB?
MVB simply put is Mercury Vapor Bulb. It is a bulb with a thin coat of Mercury on the inside that as the light passes through it it creates UVB rays. (I think that's how it works.. something like that. Maybe magic.)

Well I can't say the bulb you have now is bad for your berdies.. the scary part about the bulbs is they seem hit and miss, but I would not chance it and take it back. Do NOT get the repti-glo. Do not, do not, do not. This bulb does not put out the right ammout of UVB, what you want to get is a repti-sun. I went to a pet show two months ago to get a repti-sun and my 3 month old berdie is eating us out of house and home, runs fast as the wind, and well just lives a more active lifestyle thanks to the change in his bulb.

Next part of the question is UVA and what it is. Now I am not light specialist, so I don't think I am going to have the most scientific explanation of what UVA is, but I can give you a basic idea and tell you why you need it... or should I say how you already probably get it. UVA if I am not mistaken is just the visable light a bulb gives out. It is important because A. it lets your pet see, and B. it builds up the eyes and makes them resistant to UVB. You need it, but you can get it from just a normal house bulb. I use a Repti-sun, halogen 65 watt spot light from lowes, and a normal house bulb 75watt for his lighting.

Thank you for that info. I am ordering the repti-sun 10 this morning. I'll be taking that other bulb back when my order arrives. Just don't want to chance it.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
