coccidia treated by ponazuril

i have two beardies about 7 months old and the male tested positive for coccidia, high count. the female was positive as well but wasnt as high as his count. she seems to be the worse of the two. the vet gave me ponazuril to give them 25mg/ml. she gets .04 and he gets 1.3ml per day, he seems to be doing fine with eating and taking his meds. she on the other hand isnt really eating. she would eat a cricket or 2 when she first was on the meds. she isnt even eating her veggies. shes very lethargic. my tank setup is reptisun 10.0 tube and the basking area is about 95. i bought probiotics, electrolytes, and liquid calcium for them. i cant get her to eat and i dont want to force feed her because i heard that it could cause aspiration in the lungs. any advice would help. she does go to the bathroom but its not much when she does. one day she did eat like 3 or 4 crickstes and later that day she threw them back up and ever since then she really hasnt eaten. he weighs in at 162g and she is 52g. they are the same age. i need help soon.

well i stopped giving them thier medsfor about 2 weeks now and the male seems to be fine, its the female that is still not eating. after i first took them off thier meds she was eating one cricket or two and then she got all the way up to about 3 or four crickets. the next day after she had the four crickets she threw up. then i figured i would try some worms so i went to a privately owned pet store by me and got some wax worms. she wouldnt eat them at first but then she got used to them and started eating one a day, but it would take her a little bit to finally eat it. one day she had about 4 wax worms and then after that she wasnt eating that much. shes not even eating her greens that i notice. thier basking spot is up to 109-112. i am making sure they get thier calcium by syringe daily, i even coat thier crickets in probiotics and multivitamins. i also have a piece of wood seperating them so they cant see one another. she is going to the bathroom about everyday or every other day. at one point she went like 3 times in one day.

your basking temp should be a little higher in temp. I would say at least 100-105 degrees. They need the right temp to digest their food.

Could you review the meds again with me?
The concentration is 25mg/ml correct? If so, the amount for her is fine at .04ml but his is too high at 1.3ml? It should be .13ml, is that what you meant? Just checking!
Which probiotics did you get & how often are they getting it? How long are they going to be on the ponazuril?

As suggested, the basking temperatures need to be in a range of 95-110 for their ages. Do you use a digital probe or temp gun to measure the temperatures?

i have a 75 gallon tank with a 4 ft tub light spread across the whole tank. yes that is correct for the meds 25mg/ml. his meds are .13ml. they are suppose to be on ponazuril for 28 days but it doesnt look like it will last that long. they have been on the meds now for 10 days. the probiotics i have are nutri-bac. i put on there food once a day and coated thier crickets in it along with calcium and multi vitamins. the problem im having is that she isnt eating at all, no veggies or crickets. but she is still going to the bathroom. its not much, very little but she is going. we have been feeding her baby food through a syringe because i dont know what else to do. do you think if i puree her veggies and feed it to her would be fine?

Yes, you can puree her veggies and add her supplements. Folks have been known to puree live feeders with the veg, as well.

Great, the nutribac is excellent & will be fine for them while they are on meds.
However, I disagree with the length of the Ponazuril treatment. The beauty of this medication is that it is a specific anti-coccidial agent
unlike Albon, so the normal duration of treatment is only a 1-2, maybe 3 doses max, to wipe it out or get it a controllable level.
Good, I was making sure it was .13ml then. The doses are correct, but honestly I would take them off of the meds now.
She will probably start eating once she is off of the meds.
Continue with feeding the baby food daily that will help a lot so they don't lose weight.

Keep us posted on them both.

All 3 of my dragons had high coccida counts a couple months ago and they were treated with ponazuril. The vet originally had them on it for 28 days, but after researching it and getting advice from here, I only gave them it for 3 days. They are now all Coccidia free.....yay!! You just have to be diligent with cleaning their cages after they poop too. Each of our dragons took a little bit to come around and eat....but they did eventually. I just made sure to give them their probiotic every day and they were on chicken baby food and repta boost for awhile....but all 3 of them are great and healthy now and gaining weight!! Also....make sure to keep them hydrated! Baths in pedialyte worked real well for me. Good luck with everything!

i stopped giving them thier meds since you said that they should only be on the meds for a few days. the female isnt eating that much. i have pics but dont know how to post them
