Hello,
Yes, there are different forms of coccidia, but, normally the Albon will be effective for most of the types or it has been thus far. There are also other drugs that are anticoccidial such as Ponazuril or Baycox that can be good as well. The Isospora is the most commonly found one & usually is treated by Albon at least from every case I have seen. That is what most vets seem to use with a high degree of success. It is just a harsh medication on the system & reptiles do not always need a lot of the medications that are given.
I don't think the Albon made anything worse really, but as all drugs usually do is mess up the GI normal bacteria flora which makes it harder for them to digest any foods. That is why we recommend probiotics be taken when they are on antibiotics.
I have never heard of phoenix worms being used to treat high levels of coccidia. While they are easy to digest, I don't know if they would quite be the cure all. That would be an interesting study, however. :study: Thanks, Aaron, that was interesting. Do you have any information on actual cases you have witnessed perhaps that were successful? I was just wondering. We all like to see alternatives to drug intervention whenever necessary.
Parazap is an all natural herbal remedy that is sometimes used to expedite the flushing out of parasites & worms but does not kill them. It just help keep everything in check.
I would also continue to use probiotics as well, to help out her system.
