Cleaning a beardies tail

Norbert sometimes poops and drags his tail through it. I can tell when this happens because the poop is spread out over his viv. Fortunately it's tile, so easy to clean up. I put him in the tub when I know this has occurred to clean off his tail. It seems like some of it won't come clean and is in the grooves between the scales. I rub it with my fingers, but can't get at some of it.

Can I use a soft toothbrush to lightly brush his tail after he's soaked it a little while? Or is there another method to take care of this? Sometimes he frankly doesn't smell very good.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When they shed or when they need cleaned, I was always advised to use a tooth brush. make sure it's the softest bristle (or maybe a baby toothbrush) if you get it. Squirrel really likes to be brushed with it, especially when she's shedding. Just remember to be gentle with it. :wink:
