Chemical Free Enclosure Cleaning

We do not use chemicals in our home for cleaning due to health issues. So, what can we use to clean the furniture in the beardie's cage? I have hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, vinegar, and baking soda on hand. One of them crapped on the tree inside the enclosure, and it was quite a mess.

Do you have clorox bleach? I use a ten to one dilution of water and bleach, soak for like 5-10mins then rinse for my bird's toys. I would imagine that would be alright for beardies too. You could also use the vinegar- I use white vinegar and water for most every cleaning thing in my apartment, works great and kills germs too!

You can use a hand steamer- they are really effective and help prevent many parasite issues

No, we do not keep bleach in the house either. We only use "green", safe, chemicals if any. I picked up some Fluker's cleaner and their natural deodorizer, too. I'm hoping a Google search may lead to more safe alternatives (just because we don't want any chemicals in the house). If not, then I have read to dilute the vinegar and use that. Thanks for the replies!

I use white vinegar on a paper towel. Seems to do the trick and you only have to wait a few minutes before the smell is completely dissipated.

I use their what-EVER cleaner and I Can See Clearly, Wow! on all of my tanks and decor. It's all natural, and I have personally contacted the maker, who is out of St. Louis, and he assured me everything was safe for reptiles and birds, as they are similar in that they both are much more sensitive than dogs/cats. It cleans great and I can rest assured they are properly cleaned and safe from chemicals.

What do you use for disinfectant? I'm worried about bacteria, parasites, viruses, etc - not dirt.

Vinegar is not a sufficient disinfectant either.

I use those cleaners for everyday cleaning and they work great. Now, if Pablos fecal came back positive id use diluted bleach. I also do a deep cleaning about every 6 months, but only use hardcore disinfectants when I absolutely have to. I will add that my beardie doesn't poop in his cage, he goes in the tub.

I use a shark steam cleaner and I LOVE.. You can't get more natural than plain ol' water! It really does work marvelously and helps with the dragon smell too! I got my cleaner off of craigslist for $40!

If you want to go chemical free, this is definitely by far the best way to go! Plus in the long run you are saving a lot of money from not repurchasing cleaning products every month or so.

I agree with using steam to clean.

The steam is hot enough to kill basically anything.
