Does anyone have any comments on "Can o' crickets"? Are they okay / safe? I thought maybe it would be easier to mix in my beardie's salad to encourage him to eat more greens.

I'm certain they are not an ideal staple, but on occasion in a pinch I think they're alright. My boy will eat them off his salad when I am in a bind for live feeders. But man do they stink to high heaven. My boyfriend has a weak stomach and nearly heaved when he opened the can, so just be mindful of that!

lol..... Thanks for the warning! I will plug my nose when I open the can. I do think I will try them on his salad.

Jeez! They are as bad as kids trying to get them to eat their veggies.

:puke: is what I think of can 'o crickets. :p I tried them ONCE when I first got Dude and I will never try them again. They -stink-, worse than beardie poo! I'd never feed my beardie something that smelled like that.

You could try some freeze-dried crickets if they sell any at your store. They don't stink and personally I think they might even be safer than a can full of wet dead crickets. :p

I tried Can o' Crickets once when I ran out of live feeders. I hadn't yet gotten over the idea of ordering crix online. The first time I tried it, Nero ate a few that were on top of his salad and left the rest. The second time I put them in, he never went near the salad bowl at all. I had to change it out with fresh salad before he would go back to the bowl. I think that's pretty definitive. :p

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! Maybe I will re-think this. Rachella, the freeze-dried crickets are a great idea. I hadn't thought of those. I do think my local pet store carries them. And it seems the smell wouldn't be an issue. I have been trying to think of ways to make his veggies more appealing to him. I know some people will cut up worms or tear the legs off live crickets to mix up in the salad, but I just can't bring myself to do that.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
