Calcium Sand - What can we do?

Those of us on reptile forums have been made very aware, whether directly or indirectly, how dangerous Calcium Sand is to reptiles. Given the cases we've seen where beardies have consumed the sand to the point of death, has there ever been a push to inform these manufacturers of the hazards of their product? This would most likely require evidence in the form of necropsy data from vet clinics. Perhaps if there was a repository that could be linked to, we could use it to try and get cal sand (or just sand period) pulled from shelves.

If there is one thing companies don't like, it's bad publicity. If their product is shown to cause death or injury to animals, it means people will stop purchasing their products. Perhaps this will encourage them to find something else non harmful for reptiles to be housed on.

Well if you do find something, you could maybe set up a petition and then get it sentoff to the supplier? Whatever the matter, nobody seems to be buying it and in the few cases people do buy it, they all mention that they have heared about the possible consequences. Maube you could contact a few vets orblocal breeder who could refer you to someone who had their beardie die because of calci-sand. Anyways, if you do come up with an idea to get it pulled from sales, my name is on the list too.
