Buying Tiles for a Breeder

How exactly should I go about buying Tiles for a 40 Breeder tank?

The measurements inside the tank are smaller right? I'm getting 35.5 by 17.5 inches.
So how do you guys buy your tiles? Are they 6 x 6? I guess they won't fit exactly. Do you get the guys at Home Depot or whatever to cut them for you?

Also, I know Slate is best but what else could I use?
What about polished/glossy tiles? I know they won't trim his nails but as long as I trim them myself that shouldn't be a problem right?

You wouldn't want to get polished, glossed or glazed tiles because beardies can't walk properly on them as they're too slippery. In our 40 gallon breeder, I bought the 12" tiles and then bought a few extras that we had to cut in half with a tile cutter to make them fit perfectly.

Get two 17x17 ceramic tiles, if you can find them, they fit perfectly in my 40 gal breeder, no cutting, with about a quarter inch on each side of the cage for easy removal, you'll be surprised how perfect they are. I found mine at Floor and Decor.
