My beardy has just turned one and I am wondering about brumation. It's the 7th of November in the UK so it's colder out but temps are pretty much the same in the viv. I was wondering whether I should simulate the colder seasons in Australia and turn off a lamp to lower the temps in order to trigger brumation. The current temps are 38°c - 40°c in the basking area and between 28°c - 30°c in the cool side. The reason I'm wondering is because my beardie has been going to sleep earlier for around a week and when I got home from school today she was in her cave. I also wondered because it's the same temp all year round and I thought I should lower it during my winter to simulate seasons. Any advice is appreciated.

It seems a lot of beardies are burmating this year... though because this is my first year owning beardies with actual knowledge of what im doing honestly it could be just a normal thing every year. I have a beardie thats burmating and i didnt have to do anything. I'd say just keep the temps the same and if they start hiding in their cave all the time just let them be and give them a bath once a week. I always offer greens everyday though because mine occasionally comes out to eat and bask before sleeping again.

Thanks, this is the first time as she is my first beardie and last year she was a baby so she wouldn't do it anyway

If she gets more lethargic and starts not eating i suggest taking her to the vet though, its always good to take them to a vet for a fecal test before burmation.

Yes but I only take her to the vet when very important as the closest is a 2 hour drive and £60 gor basic check up; luckily I havnt had to take her yet ?

Do you think that non reptile vets would be able to do a fecal examination ?

Hi there, I wouldn't worry about a fecal test right now. The slow down/brumation period is totally normal and nothing to worry about unless the dragon is black bearding and/or losing weight. A young [ first year ] dragon may just sleep on + off for a bit, then resume a more normal routine after 4-6 weeks.

Another thing is I have recently moved my other beardie into another tank as they were previously together and he hasn't left this one corner in the cool side. He still eats great but I was wondering if this could be brumation. He rarely moves from that corner but because it's been a few weeks since the move I'm starting to think it's something else. Also, his stress marks are very dark pretty much black which is why I thought he was still getting used to the tank. Any help on that is also appreciated

Is it the beardie that was moved to a new tank that is staying in a corner ? If so, that's even more common. It can be stressful when there are any changes whether it be moving to a new tank or being the one left behind, they sense that something is different.

Can you post pics of them showing their body size and also their set up ?

Both beardies have been going to sleep earlier. The one that was in the corner on the first post has stayed in the original tank. The one I mentioned that has been moved to a new tank is the one that is always in that corner on the cool side. I'll try and post some images of the new Viv and him

I'm 6ft and that is him next to my arm if that helps
Also, I forgot to mention above that although he us eating, I never actually see him basking. However, in the previous tank I had the two together due to petshops advice(unaware that they don't know anything) and I never actually seen any of them basking. There was a spot for them, they were just never in it. They only poop in the bath now which is once a week but I think they have gotten into a routine because the second there in the bath they poop. I'm happy with that tho cus it means less cleaning up for me. I used to do It twice a week but I have been to busy with exams to do that

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
