A support group for people who have brumating beardies, and are hating every minute of it.

I figured it would be fun to all talk about our brumating beardies, how adorable they are when they sleep, and the random silly little things that they do! Pics are always welcome too, of course :D

So today, Dudley revealed his psychic powers to me.
I was at Fleet Farm, getting pet bedding and stuff, when I randomly decided to get Dudley and Squishy (my froggie) some wax worms. When I got home, Dudley was crawling out of his cave towards his basking spot like "K, mommy, I know you got me wax worms. I woke up just for this, so they better be pretty darn yummy! Hand 'em over now." LOL! So far in his brumation, Dudley hasnt come out of his cave voluntarily until today! He knew I got him a suprise! He will be spoiled with baths and fresh salad and nommy wormies tonight :p

After his bath, Dudley went all hyper on me... I have a feeling that it will be a few days before he goes down again. Yay!

My babies are all too young as well, but my brothers dragon, Baby, is in and out all the time. She occasionally comes out, opens her mouth, and goes crazy on the repti-worms, runs at her salad, basks a bit, then goes to sleep. it's always annoying having to wake her up a couple days later for her "relieving" bath, but she is adorable. I hope my guys are like her and give me sometime with them during brumation.

Hi I have a question, I'm thinking mines starting to. Hes a 1.5 yo male, I haven't had to deal with this yet because he was a baby last winter. The last week or so I've noticed him staying in his hide all day and all night. He hasn't eaten in 3 days but hes not lost any weight or anything. The last time thing he ate was some baby food and some wax worms on Thursday... I keep offering some food, small amounts but he never shows interest. He's grumpy too! The first day I didn't see him leave his hide I went to pull him out to make sure he was ok and boy did he get fussy. I'm sure its not recommended to disturb them when they are in there, I just wanted to make sure he wasn't dead... What can I do to help keep him alive? I sill leave his lights on 11/13, I can probably do less but I need to get a heat emitter. Anything I should watch for?

Also, I did give him a bath on saturday, I think it was, he sat in the tub not moving for a good 10 minutes. Once he started moving it was only like 2-3 before he decided he wanted out. He pooped on wednesday, a huge nasty poop.

Sounds like brumation to me! This is my first brumation too, so it made me a little nervous at first but its not too bad.

Unless Dudley is actually out, I shut off all lights except the basking light. I take him out once a week to bathe him and offer him food, so its OK to disturb them once in a while. You dont want them to get dehydrated.
Dudley still LOVES his baths though... I have to practically drag him out of his tub LOL.

Apparently, he has decided to go on a wax worm kick, LOL! He doesnt want his supers right now, but his is awake and fairly active today. I might try to get him a thing of Phoenix worms if this continues...

I sure need this support group! This will be my girl's first time and it is extremely tough. Yesterday she came out and I got really excited thinking maybe she would be awake for a while. I turned on all the lights and she ate a superworm and went back in her log :( It has been especially long for me since she has been doing this since August. She is another that loves baths if I try to take her out too early she tries crawling out of my hands to get back in haha.

So has Dudley... He started hiding and eating less at the end of summer :( Im like "NOOOOO! I just adopted you in May... Dont leave me yet!" LOL

I think he ate 3 super worms yesterday, so thats good. Hes lost a little more weight than I wanted (He has no parasites, and he is still pretty chubby though LOL) so Im trying to make him gain a few more grams.

Hey there:)

My dragon is around 9 to 10 months old, and has had some health issues, like coccidia and hasn't been eating for a while, I took him to the vet more times than I can remember he is fine now, and starting to improve a lot.
The question is, should I let him brumate?
I'm thinking of a semi brumation rather than a full one. Like 6 hrs of day light only?
He is my first dragon, any tips are GREATLY appreciated.

Is he too young to brumate?

Also: He hasn't been active before with all his health issues, and is now finallly back to his old self being hyper and alert.

He sounds a little young to brumate... Is he showing signs of brumating? If he is going down on his own, I guess you could just leave him and see what heppens, but you dont want to "make" him brumate.

Have you gotten a fecal done after treating for the coccidia? They will brumate on their own when the time comes. My girl isnt even 9 months old and she is brumating now so it is always possible. Does he show signs that he is going to brumate?

I am really hoping mine does a short brumation. I am in the same boat as you Jess I believe I got mine at the end of May so it felt like I didnt get to see the real personality before she started getting lethargic.

Thanks for your quick reply. I don't plan to make him brumate, I actually don't want him to as he is not 100% back to health as of yet, the reason I ask is coz during the time of his sickness he wanted to sleep all day, and now that he is doing a lot better (2 months after) he is active and hyper... However for the past two days he didn't want to come out of his hide in the morning and wanted to sleep more, so I thought he may want to brumate.
A lil confused:-S

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
