Blood In Poop???

Ok, So Saturday, i tookk my Taz to the vet for parasites and he tested posative and his counts were off the charts according to the vet. Anyway, he is loosing weight rather rapidly and not eating. We are giving him albon followed 2 hrs later by yogurt. we are also feeding him babyfood dusted w/ calcium powder w/ a syringe 2x's daily. I just gave him a warm bath to hydrate him and out came our gift. it was urate about 1/4" round x 1/2"long followed by orangy to gry ish for another 2" then a seperate piece of 1/4 x 1/2" w/ blood on the end. Is this normal while being on albon?

Hello Carmen,

That is sometimes common when being treated for worms or parasites yes. If it persists, you will need to go back to the vet as anytime blood comes out with a stool on a regular basis is considered an emergency.
Did he have to strain when he went to the bathroom? Keep him well hydrated during this time. Follow the Albon with at least 1 ml of fluids, daily, if not more.
Were the urates hard or soft?

he didn't seem to starain just kinda came out. I was not aware of the 1ml of fluid. I have been bathing him daily to assure some fluids but i will try injecting w/ a syringe to assure proper hydration. Taz doesn't drink on his own @ all. he won't even lick water off his nose in the tub, but i have seen him submerge his head and gulp a couple of times. Also in answer to one of your q's in your pm, i have 2 accurite w/ probes in each of our cages.

Hello Carmen,

How is your dragon doing today?
Yes, just the extra fluids along with the meds really really help a lot with hydration. Baths are effective as well.
ORAL fluids no subcutaneous. Just a regular syringe with NO needle, ok?
How is his appetite has he eaten much today?
Good, the accurite digital probes are very good for measuring the temperatures with so they should be fine then.

Hi Tracie!
Thanks for following up. I actually posted a follow up last night under my parasite post. When i got home lastnight I saw Taz roaming around the bottom of his tank. I asked my wife if he had been there all day, she told me he had just come down. It had looked as if he were looking for food, so i gave him some collard greens. He ate it, so I gave him like a handful which he also ate. I offered him 3 crix and he looked @ them like this is all your fault and wouln't touch them. But he seems to be bouncing back after 4 days of dosing w/ albon.

Thank you again for all your help Tracie. BTW, I was looking @ your site last night. How do you ship your crix?
