Blondie's Pringles ~ Coco, Lexi, Crash & Psycho

So the decision was completely up to Carl, because Xena was his babygirl, and I know no-one else in the world can ever replace her... but he has always wanted to raise a baby dragon, seeing as how 3 of our 4 are rescues, and adults when we took them in...

So darn if they aren't totally like, well as fresnowitte says, P-R-I-N-G-L-E-S-!

So Carl picked out his baby... it'll take a little while to name her, we have to see her personality. Welcome into our hearts, little one... almost 14 inches / 166 grams / crazy hyper personality so far ...
111210-bg01.jpg

As soon as we got her out of the packaging, she made a bee-line for my son's leg & pancaked out, so CJ got the first real snuggles, he's my little seatwarmer:
111210-bg02.jpg

Look at that sweet face:
111210-bg04.jpg

111210-bg05.jpg

Ooh, soft, what's this?
111210-bg06.jpg

Yum, salad... nom nom nom...
111210-bg07.jpg

Hey, lady, I cleaned my plate, can I have more?...
111210-bg08.jpg

Oh, wait, ...
um, what else was I gonna say? ...
Oh, yeah,

There's MORE!

I had to crop that first picture, look really closely...
111210-1-unwrapping.jpg

did you look really really close?
???
Really?

111210-lg01.jpg

111210-lg02.jpg

Barbara was worrying about finding this little guy a special home, and Carl fell in love with him/her too... so he's our "little guy/gal"... Quasi now looks huge, and Crash looks like Godzilla compared to these two!

So meet little guy / 60 grams / 11 inches ... so laid back, just watches everything going on, and eats and eats and eats (hand-fed salad today  )
111210-lg03.jpg

111210-lg04.jpg

Just a little stress going from Cali to Ohio...
111210-lg07.jpg

Bath time! This little one loves to swim already!
111210-lg08.jpg

111210-lg09.jpg

Ooh, what's this?
111210-lg10.jpg

111210-lg11.jpg

Ooh, what's up here -- slowly progressed up the branches, then just watched us and all the activity in the room for about an hour...

LOL beardie blankies, now beardie baskets LOL ~ I dunno, are they worth it because that was my first one, so I am a novice artisan who just loves to play with textiles? I am trying a rainbow one next... should be interesting (remember, my sewing room probably has over 2,000 yards of fabric, all colors, lots of prints, insert evil laugh

Looks like you found a way to "contain" Coco, so funny that she would choose to jump into the bowl when you were done. Beardies are so funny. Coco sure is a beautiful beardie! So are you going to make more bowls for Lexi and Psycho? They're going to be jealous of Miss Coco having her own basket. By the way, it's really well done. If you decide to sell, let me know, it would be a handy thing in our beardie living room. Something else for my beardies to play with on time out.
You're not a novice if you can put together this bowl in a few hours. It would take me longer than that!

OMG you guys! Are you serious? I saw a lady who had these on Etsy, I just about fell over at her price of $20 for a bowl that was 8" wide at top x 3" high (Coco's bowl is about 12" wide x 4+ inches high) ~ but then I did the math and paid attention to how much in supplies to make these (these are small baskets):
1311368432025-baskets_01.jpg

I made these last night, and they average about $9 each in supplies (more if I use a true tie-dye batik fabric just because of the cost of the fabric). Then depending on the size of the bowl can be 1-2 hours to wrap the length and sew it. So now I understand her $20 cost. But the economy is horrible, I can make loads of these, do you seriously want me to list them? I can make them in custom colors, but I am making a rainbow batik one tonight and I am dreaming of rainbow sherbet the bigger it gets. (I have had this fabric in my quilt stash for 5 years, afraid to cut it because it was outrageously priced, but so beautiful I had to have it... well, it just about killed me, but I cut it today and some of it is becoming a basket!)
Here's the orange-ish one...
1311368365146-baskets_03.jpg

I made this one for my "clutter" next to my sewing machine ~ then my daughter tried to stymie it... had to make a 2nd one...

Just love these little bowls Dawn, there would be shipping as well right? Of course I'm guilty for not getting all my babies blankets first and looking at baskets for myself........trying to pass it off as a well deserved house warming gift to myself....... I wish I could see a video of your cloth room...that would be exciting. Are the bowls stiff?

you deserve a housewarming gift :) ~ how is your new home? Yes, they are sort of stiff, but flexible, too ~ I'll shoot a pic tomorrow when I get daylight (my sewing room light filters thru to beardies) to show how maleable they are. So, they are stiff enough to hold fruit, but flexible enough to conform to fitting many interesting items... i.e. I can stuff my yarn balls in there, and it will conform. Does that make sense? I wouldn't use them to carry bricks or something really heavy LOL.

Let me go thru my stash and see if I can find something with white/pink/green... If I don't see anything in my stash, my I have 3 fabric stores close to me, and I'm sure i can find something befitting, if that's the colors you've got your heart set on? Let me know what you want to fill it with, and that will give me an idea of how big you'd need? (size of bowl can use anywhere from 1/2 to 1 yards of fabric, that is the biggest cost of the bowl). But they are fun to watch them grow as they are made...

Oh Dawn, I don't want you to go through all that......I'd love to the pics though.......but the fabric has to hit me, I like reds and burgandy's (sp?) also, I really love the 50's look. I would have no plans on what to use them for, I just like them, maybe fruit......I like the fact that they're stiff. So cute!!!!!!

thought I posted this already, must not have hit submit... old age... mentalpause... sux to be me?

So, y'all know by now that I sew, quilt, scrapbook, crochet, etc... crafts? oh yeah, I'm there... So I tried my hand at making fabric coiled baskets/bowls (they're called "bali bowls") ... used some uglyfugly old strips of fabric that I was going to throw away anyway... my first "bowl" ended up being a coaster, it was really really bad...

So I wrap... and wrap... and sew... and wrap some more. 4 hours later, voila, its a bowl, I think it looks yuk. We put Coco on the sewing table, and she jumped in. "Get outta there, silly" ... took her out, she jumps back in...

Ok, I think I've just created a reptile moses basket? LOL

OH! My Gosh!! That is sooooo her bowl now!! That is the most adorable thing I have seen in awhile!!!! I absolutely love it :blob5: That made me smile such a huge smile!

Those baskets are a pain to make! uhg. I have a sewing/embroidery machine as well and love it! I can't paint or draw worth a hoot, so that is my way of creating color in my world LOL Plus, I love giving homemade gifts as well :)

The quilt is gorgous and such a deft hand...beautiful...what an amazing gift, sure to be an heirloom for them.

I am fairly new to the boards and there are a few threads that will take me a loooong time to go through (yours...Barbara's, Deb's...a few others, sorry, I am having a senior moment and don't recall right now) them, but I will do a bit each day and get there...hopefully by the end of next year!!! From the looks of it, by the time I read through one page, there will be 4 more added!! LOL :laughing6:

Just had to say how much I love that bowl with her in it...she has claimed it as her own, no argument there! I used to make fabric bowls (way easier than the rope one you made!) and boxes etc. but have not done one in a long time.

Have a great day tomorrow!

Those bowls are just so cute, but I understand how costly it can to make them. Those pics of Coco in the blue bowl is priceless, I can see you're going to have a hard time getting it away from her.
You are just so artistic, that beautiful quilt you made for your niece will be an heirloom for sure.

here is a slightly different way to go for dragon use... they way I wrap the coil bowls is pretty sturdy, but it is a raw-edge of the fabric showing. ~ so, I don't know what would happen if you had to throw it in the washer (i.e. poo happens?)
1311436562485-basket_aloha1.jpg

On these fabric baskets, I usually put 8 eyelets in the corners, and tie them with ribbon ~ then if I want to disassemble, I can remove the ribbon, and these lay flat... I'll have to figure out what to swap for the ribbons... my Lexi likes to eat stuff like that  she was going after Carlye the other day when she had one of the cheerleader-type corkscrew ribbon ponytail holders in her hair. Lexi thought those were some really colorful worms, or something!
This shows the eyelets and corner pockets a little better:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
