Hello peeps,

Im new to this site but not new to keeping reptiles and such i have been doing it for a few years now and love it, i have had bird eating tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, water dragons and all kinds..

Anyway i will stop boring you and get to the point, i have two beardies 1 male-6months old, and 1 female-3months old, i have had both reptiles from juvenile stage, the male kinjo i bought 1st who i have not one issue with he is healthy as can be, but i recently bought a female - her name is keyshia she was in a store i go too and was looking a little under feed and waterd, to round it off she was not being taken care of and i had to rescue her or i feared she may die :(...

But anyway she is healthy now, putting weight on eating and drinking well and living with my male realy well which made me soooo happy , also eating out my hand just like kinjo :), i have a large waterfall in the viv and they love to swim in it as i have attached a larger pool underneath it so they can soak it up. haha I have one issue with keyshia the female which im finaly getting round to.. is that since i have had her she has had this like black crusty hole/mark on her head, now i have examined it closely and it doesnt seem to be mites but i could be wrong, i used a couple of cotton ear buds that were soaked in luke warm water and when rubbing it around the mark, black bits were on the cotton bud? I have never seen this before and cannot find any other info like it anywere so please can anybody help me?

I have lots of pics & vids that can answer any questions about there size, setup and so forth, the pics are big and the ones with the black marks are a bit blurry as my cam is rubbish on zoom. Here is the link, for the black marks look in the black marks folder: http://reapersofwar.com/ppics/Dragons/

Thank you for your time :)

Hey, Tony, can you take pics again, but back off about 3-4 more inches. I can see the blurred dark spot, but not anything specific.

Hey there. I have a two and half female beardie called Pan and she too has a browny/blackish hole type mark on her. She was actually bitten by a naughty hungry cricket. We bought some Iodine from the pet shop and applied it a couple of times a week. That was over a year ago and its still there a bit but lessens when she sheds. The very helpful chap at the pet store said that it would take a age to heal totally as they are cold blooded animals, it takes a lot longer to heal.

Hope this helps although pictures are a little blurry so it was hard to see and maybe the poster who replied to you first maybe able to help too.

Thank you for your insight on that, i just dont want it to be infected or an infection itself, i first thought it may be mites of some kind but i think it may just be an old injury that just has not healed yet, it just looks kinda crusty and decayish if you know what i mean?

Anyway my camera is awfull im sorry, i have taken some more that are little better, note its on her head by her eye. she also has a stumped tail which i know will not grow back, the day i got her she eat and drank and was sick a couple of times, but since then she,s putting weight on and seems to be realy healthy and happy and eating well.

Makes me wonder why these people sell these type of animals when they clearly dont take care of them!!!

Here is the new pics number 8 and 44 are probably the best ones, thanks for your time.

I have to agree with you there. Well its nice that you have rescued her/him and they have someone who cares about them. This does look the same as Pan's ailment she got with the bite from the cricket. I tend not put the crickets running free in her viv anymore for this reason as they are buggers for biting! Have you got a reputable reptile store that you can get advice from? Also, tomorrow I will photograph Pan's little injury so you can compare it your beardies and maybe will put your mind at rest. Its late in the UK now and she's fast asleep so I will definately do this tomorrow.

Try not to worry :)

Yes that actually does look like a crix bite. The iodine is the right thing for that area right now. The black and crusty could be nacrotic tissue, and we need to halt that in it's steps right away so it doesn't continue to grow, and more tissue dies.
If you have some triple antibiotic at hand, use a dab of that each evening just before lights out, and recheck in the morning when lights come on. The reason for this is to make sure that most of that antibiotic gel/cream is absorbed so that area doesn't get "sun burned" so to speak under the basking light.

Does it look anything like my picture I posted above? If you look at her back right leg, its just above there on her back. Sorry if the shot is unclear

Thanks for the replys i appreciate it, i cant realy tell on the pics to be honest, but you can see the same type black dintation.

Im gona go the chemist tomoro and get some iodine and see how it goes :)

My camera isn't the best at taking close up shots. The only way I can describe Pan's is that she has a little indentation tyoe hole thats gone browny/black and crusty.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
