Bitten by the beardie bug and now....welll.....

Hi all! First post but man have I been lurking!!! I'm a photographer that had the pleasure of photographing a beardie about a month ago and knew I HAD to have one. I've been researching and researching. Acquired the enclosure, lights, etc and then started searching for my new pet. Found an ad on Craig's list for baby beardies literally around the corner from me. Went yesterday and picked out a beautiful 12 week old girl! Don't have her yet as I'm trying to get the temps perfect in her enclosure. Here's a few pics I took yesterday!! She is so relaxed and I took to her immediately! I can't wait to bring her home! Thanks to the knowledgable folks here that helped me with my initial set up...and you didn't know you did!!!!

She is adorable, look at that precious face. Gorgeous coloring too.

If you need help with the temps, let us know. Most of us have been setting up enclosures for MANY years.

When do you go to pick her up?

Aw thanks..I think she is a beauty too! I can get her when I'm ready. I'm hoping Wednesday. But I'm nervous. Going to get a temp gun today. Never did I think I would ever own a reptile! My kids are grown so I guess I needed to nurture :lol: Here's one of the pics I took in the studio that started my research. I've been on this site pretty much day and night learning....my eyes are blurry from all the reading I've done! Here's a pic of the one I took in the studio that started all this.

Were you able to find a temp gun? When you use it, make sure you hold it 2" from the area you're checking. If you want to post a picture of setup, we can make sure everything is perfect. Wednesday will be here before you know it. :wink:

I wasn't able to get out of work. :-(. Tomorrow morning first thing. I don't want to rush anything....I told her by weeks end I would get her but I was shooting for Wednesday. Fingers crossed!

Good luck. If you can't find a temp gun, the Acurite digital with probe works very well too although a gun reading is much quicker.

You little girl is adorable! Have you picked out a name for her?

I know Petco, PetSmart, and Home Depot all have temp guns - the cheapest one I found to be the one I bought at Petco and it works really well. The battery has died as is is about a year old and was used a lot. You could also buy a probe temp as well.

Can't wait to see you permanently united with your new baby.

Me either! Thank you! I checked PetSmart petco lowes and walmart. Going to lowes today. I'm also waiting for a housing from amazon for my reptisun. As for names we have Vera,Lucy, Izzy and Lizzy. We are going to wait to see how her personality is. Hopefully today I will have everything we need. I'm a bit nervous as I have never owned a reptile. I hope there is no aggression etc. I will keep you informed!!

Aggression is easier to work with than you'd think. The only thing is she might not eat right away due to relocation stress - common in many beardies.

Yes...I've read about relocation stress. Kind of expecting that. I was reading the behavior part of this forum last night and got this aggression thing in my head....ugh.....should've only kept with the positives for now. When I picked her out she was so sweet. I'm hoping that will be the norm with her!

Aggression is easy to work with. Jace was my first beardie and he was very fierce, but between here and some suggestions from Petco (every now and then they do have good ideas) and now he is my cuddle bug. He hates not being cuddled. I hope that puts you at ease some.

Yes yes YES.....positive thinking!!!!! Was urs friendly upon picking him out?? I'd love to see a pic of him!
