How anyone could take something so adorable and so rare, that God saw fit to give them, and put it up for sale for $10,000, just to make some money is absolutely beyond me.
Poor Bert and Ernie will probably spend their entire lives getting gawked at, without anyone caring enough to love them and give them the special care that they need. What kind of a person would take an animal with any sort of handicap, and turn them into "side show"? It is just so sad. I often say that my animals are smarter than a lot of people I know, and this is a perfect example!
My family and I have a "special needs" Boxer, who is only about 1/3 the size of a normal Boxer, and has head tremors, along with gait and balance problems because of a neurological problem, and an rare illness known as Lysosomal Storage Disease. You would not believe the people that walk by our yard and point and laugh at her when she stumbles arround. I feel like going out there and smacking the crap out of them.....but every animal in my household (2 other dogs, 4 cats, 3 ferrets and 3 beardies) all defer to her and try to make her life easier. They sleep with her and keep her warm, if she wants to eat from their bowls, they will back up and let her have it. Even Ming, my oldest male beardie will play with her through the glass in his tank by bobbing back at her when she bobbles her head, until she gets tired and goes to lie down. She thinks its the greatest thing in the world when he bobs back at her! It takes so little to make her happy.
Our vet said that she wouldn't live to be 6 months old, but my son (who she actually belongs to, but he still lives at home with us) told our vet that "sometimes a lot of love will do what all the medicine in the world can't", and as it turned out, he was right. Evie celebrated her 3rd birthday this past Memorial Day!
Any handicapped animals can teach us so much.....if we listen with our hearts, instead of ears.... I sincerely believe that Zak and
Wheezie have survived for so long ,simply because they know how much they're loved. God knew what he was doing when he sent something so rare and special to Barbara, and she will love and care for them for as long as God allows, just as we do for our little Evie. And another wonderful example is Jason, who managed to save little LG, against all odds, and has had his love returned to him a hundredfold by the little guy. Handicapped animals can amaze us by what they're capable of, when they know that they're loved...
Some advice for the poster above, just keep those connected little ones with you, and love them and care for them for as long as God allows. The love that you give them and that you get in return will enrich your life so much....
And as for the person who put Bert and Ernie up for sale....I feel very sorry for her, because she'll never know what she missed by not keeping them....I just hope that whoever purchases them treats them decently..... That is so sad.....
