My little Leela is gaining weight, which is so good..but obviously with that comes the shedding - lots and lots of it!
This is her first big shed since I've rescued her,and it's been going on for about a week now. I have been browsing through the shed-related topics so I know the drill: I am giving her a daily bath, where I gently rub her with a soft toothbrush to loosen the skin. She tolerates it, which makes it much easier for me! I even put a little bit of olive oil in the water (very small amount) which also seemed to help. Normally I can't get her to stay in the tub, but she must know it's helping because her resistance is breaking down every day!
However, it's only been the last two days where I have noticed her appetite for greens is really low (crickets, no problem!) and she is a bit lethargic. Last night she went to bed early, about 2 hours before she normally does. I usually shut the UVB off at about 9-ish and the basking light stays on until about 11 - she is a night owl! 8)
But last night I could see how tired she looked and I wrapped her in the "burrito blankie" at 9, shut all the lights off, and she was out cold within a minute or two. This morning at 9am, she was awake, but still in the blankie. After the lights went on, she stayed in it for half an hour, which is highly unusual, as she normally bolts up the basking tree to warm up!
Anyway, the last two days have been unique in regards to her appetite and behavior - yet I've also seen the most shed coming off, too, in really big pieces! So is that the reason? I mean, it seems like a logical conclusion, but I'm a worrier! Any input or advice is appreciated!
