Beardys Not Mating!!

Hey everyone.. i put me and my friends beardies together to breed... the male does everthing right grabs her neck holds her gets on top but then once she moves a bit he lets go... its the second day they are together and he has mounted her about 10 times.. is there something i can do or should i just wait and it will happen... its like he doesn't know how to stick it in... they are both 3 years of age.

Just like humans not knowing how it all works right out the gate, dragons have to learn what they do. On a first breeding it can take several attempts to get it figured out.

I have the same problem. Ive breed my male and female and the have done it sucessfully two different time but i always have problems at first. He does everything you said too and i have to put them together a few times a day until it happens as i am trying now with no luck. its a waiting game .....

If my female doesnt want to mate at this time... will there be signs i should look for to know when she wants to breed?

not sure about that. My female only has 1 clutch each time she is mated so im always trying to mate them. Im on day 3 of having them together. My female wants to but its my male not doing the job

Her popping only 1 clutch is indicative of improper nutrition cause if the female does not have the required nutrients to grow a second clutch then she will not double clutch. You should only breed her once in a season. After she is fertilized she should not be bred again as it is not healthy to force her body to produce another clutch.

yes if your female does not want to breed she will not let him mate her. I say separate for a week or two and reintroduce again and see what happens.

Well i give them greens with calcium everyday and they have there uvb tube on all day plus a 100 watt spot light. They get dubias which i breed about once a week since im still waiting for my colony to build. Anything im doin wrong or not doing which would prevent her from producing more clutches?

you only fee live feeders once a week?
if so than that is the biggest red flag as far as health is concerned.
if she doesnt drop another clutch you will just have to try again next yera.

Beardies need a lot more than live feeders once a week! Perhaps you can order a butt load of some other type of acceptable feeder until your colony has time to grow. Are you also providing her with salads? Calcuim supplements? Vitamins?

Might I also point out that not all beardies are built to be breeders. If she for some reason doesn't want to and isn't submissing or lay several clutches I personally would not force the issue with that female. She knows more about her body than we do believe it or not they are that smart....Or maybe she doesn't find him attractive/big enough. What is the size comparison between the 2? If she's bigger than him it may not happen.

Keep in mind just because you're ready for them to breed and produce eggs doesn't mean they are.
Did both beardies brumate? How long have they been awake? How awake are they? How well have they been eating? Until a beardie is good and awake and been chowing down on veggies and bugs for awhile they are not ready.

What type of UVB bulb?
You need to feed them more than once a week, even if you are supplementing with greens and calcium. Your regimen doesn't sound very good for raising healthy dragons, much less ones that are ready to breed.

They have the uvb tube....Ive read up on care and i dont see what you think im doing wrong. maybe just add in more protein?
