:(

I have 2 beardies and have had 2 beardies in the past. The past few days one of mine who is only a few months old was lethargic. I put it down to the cold weather until I just saw how swollen his face is!

First time I have ever seen this. He is generally a bit chunky, but this is crazy!!

Is the swelling hard or soft? Are your 2 housed together or seperately? Not sure what advise to give however these are two important questions that will help somebody else possibly help you. Is he showing any signs of distress or discomfort? Hope your baby gets better soon.

Hi there,

Yeah they are housed together. The welling is really soft and squishy. He doesnt look like he is in pain or anything. Even when Im touching the beard.

All the temps are correct and using an exo terra 10.0 compact bulb and an exo terra 70w spot. Its 6am here in the uk now and just got up to check on him. He still looks the same. He hasnt been eating the past 2 days so will possibly give him water and mashed food via syringe just now.

Hello,

Please change your UVB lighting though. The compact/coil lights are not good for emitting UVB wavelengths for bearded dragons.
It is a possibility of poor nutrient absorption. What type of supplementation are you giving him?
Do you give him calcium several times per week?
Could he have injured himself?

HI Tracy,

I will change the bulb over the weekend to the tube. For some reason in the UK the compact bulbs are the one everyone recommends.

I dust the food with Calcium 2-3 times a week. They are fed twice daily (they are less than 6 months old!), super worms (mario worms) in the morning and locusts in the evenings. The only veg that they will eat is Rocket. Nothing else!! Rocket is in the tank at all times.

I dont see him injuring himself as there is nothing really to climb up etc. Unless one of the locusts/worms bit him.

He is doing much better today, swelling isnt as bad and not black! Will leave him basking for a few hours and will take some pics later. At the moment he is very lethargic and wont eat.

Hello,

Hm, that is very interesting then.
Great, changing the UVB light may help for him, a stronger light might help him absorb his calcium better right now.
How is he doing tonight? Is the swelling down now, a little bit?
It is possible that a worm or locust did bite him, that can happen. Do you leave them in the tank for long periods of time?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
