Hey guys! Got a rather odd... experience here.

I adopted my Beardie, Derecho about two months ago. She's around 5ish months old, I think, comparing her size to a few growth charts I've found. She's went through her second shed and she's growing beautifully! Other than being a bit temperamental towards me (which we're working on), she's a doll.

Our routine is usually pretty stable. Her light kicks on about 8am. I place her bowl of greens in about 9 before I head to work. When I come home at night, usually every other day, I'd bring her around 18 small crickets, dusted. I have always fed her in a separate box. Sometimes she'd gobble up all of them, other times, she'd leave 2-5 left. I leave her in her feeding box around 30-45 minutes or unless I see her trying to climb the sides. That normally means "Hey! I'm done! Come get me!"

Well around three weeks ago, when it got really cold here (don't know if that has anything to do with it), she stopped eating her live! Not sure if it was where she was getting grumpy with shedding or what. But if I put in freeze dried crickets/small mealworms/grasshoppers, she'll eat those right up.

I've never had an issue with this before so I'm just wondering, is this a phase? I've never had one turn down a hunted meal. It's usually greens I notice them not wanting to eat. Is there any problems with eating freeze dried only? The freeze dried ones I bought say they're gut loaded. I'm just hoping she is getting the nutrients she needs.

I usually feed her a blend of collard, mustard, and kale, with either green, red, or orange peppers mixed in, and some occasional fruit for variety. Her basking area reads around 93-97 (which, it is probably a bit warmer than that) and I mist her every 2-3 days (she hates it). She has grown 2-3 inches in the two months I've owned her so I'm hoping I'm doing things right. My last beardies were adults and pretty predicable. She's a bit all over the place and I'm not used to this at all.

Some dragons just dont like crickets or the way they move. One of mine had an incident with a cricket where it bit him, and he never ate another cricket again. Try live meal worms, silk worms, phoenix worms, ect. She may like that better. If she absolutely wont eat anything live, DUST DUST DUST! Get some reliable dragon vitamins, spray or powder, and fill it with calcium too. Also, talk to a vet, they may be able to give a supplement to boost her intake. Additionally, try an appetite stimulant. Hope this helps.

Sorry it has taken a while to reply back. =(

I'm wondering if she refused them because she was shedding. I bought a dozen earlier this week and she ate them all! Bought two dozen last night and she ate those all too!

She eats her greens and veggies well... She's quite the little pig.

The only bad thing about my area is there are NO reptile vets, at all. The closest one to me is unfortunately two hours away. I work for a Vet though and if you know the name/company of the supplements that would help her, I could possibly have them ordered.

Please excuse me if I'm wrong here, but from everything I've ever read, a 5-6 month old should be eating WAY WAY WAY more than 18 crickets every other day.

From all that I know, a youngling at that stage should be getting "as many as they will eat in 15 or so minutes, 2x per day" with a batch of greens in between.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
