Hey guys! Got a rather odd... experience here.
I adopted my Beardie, Derecho about two months ago. She's around 5ish months old, I think, comparing her size to a few growth charts I've found. She's went through her second shed and she's growing beautifully! Other than being a bit temperamental towards me (which we're working on), she's a doll.
Our routine is usually pretty stable. Her light kicks on about 8am. I place her bowl of greens in about 9 before I head to work. When I come home at night, usually every other day, I'd bring her around 18 small crickets, dusted. I have always fed her in a separate box. Sometimes she'd gobble up all of them, other times, she'd leave 2-5 left. I leave her in her feeding box around 30-45 minutes or unless I see her trying to climb the sides. That normally means "Hey! I'm done! Come get me!"
Well around three weeks ago, when it got really cold here (don't know if that has anything to do with it), she stopped eating her live! Not sure if it was where she was getting grumpy with shedding or what. But if I put in freeze dried crickets/small mealworms/grasshoppers, she'll eat those right up.
I've never had an issue with this before so I'm just wondering, is this a phase? I've never had one turn down a hunted meal. It's usually greens I notice them not wanting to eat. Is there any problems with eating freeze dried only? The freeze dried ones I bought say they're gut loaded. I'm just hoping she is getting the nutrients she needs.
I usually feed her a blend of collard, mustard, and kale, with either green, red, or orange peppers mixed in, and some occasional fruit for variety. Her basking area reads around 93-97 (which, it is probably a bit warmer than that) and I mist her every 2-3 days (she hates it). She has grown 2-3 inches in the two months I've owned her so I'm hoping I'm doing things right. My last beardies were adults and pretty predicable. She's a bit all over the place and I'm not used to this at all.
