Beardie roaming around house???

I have never let Samson roam around the house but I read about beardies roaming and I was just wondering what precautions you guys take in order for your beardie to roam? Also, how do you prevent your beardie from crawling into a corner and hiding from you? It is just that I can't imagine letting Samson roam around because he seems so small that I am afraid that he will crawl into a corner and I won't be able to find him! How do you guys do it? I have tried to take him outside also but when I do he trys to dart off and get away from us! From what I can tell about him he is a little skittish when it comes to loud noises and he tries to run for cover. I have been to like 6 pet shops and I can't find a leash in his size so I have not been able to take him out for a walk yet. I am going to have to order the leash from the internet.

Lisa just make sure all the holes are closed up and all doors are shut and locked plus all water sources are cut off. You could also use a long leach. And of course no chemicals are around. Do as you would for a baby but just think smaller spaces! :wink:

when phoenix was little i put him in my bthroom, just plugged under the clostet n the door n he was happy, now that hes bigger i just put his leash on him, i can always find him with that lol

I was just telling my kids the other day to let him roam in the bathroom because it doesn't have any hiding places and they could just close the door and play with him in there. They haven't tried it yet but I am going to tell them to do it on Saturday so they can play with him without the fear that he will get lost I can't wait until he just a little bigger so I don't have to worry so much! Thanks guys!

since its pretty cold i also take his basking light with me and it will clasp on the border around my bathtub, then i put his big stuffed animal under it and he gets up and down as he pleases

Hey that is what I do lol except didn't let him roam when he was little..

You need to do what i did. I trained my 2 small dogs to "find" the dragon. When they do, they get a cookie. So now whenever a dragon is out running around, the dogs just follow them around, keeping their distance of course or no cookie. I haven't lost 1 yet. They've even located a few escapees for me. And they "dragonsit" while they are bathing and will immediately bark and follow them if they get out. When my dogs get bored and want a cookie they go into the dragon room and look at a beardie and bark. Haven't figured out how to explain to them that that doesn't count. LOL

One of these days i'm actually going to take pics of her searching. She does it just like the rescue dogs do, very methodical. I'm thinking of renting her out to people who lose their beardies..lol

the breeder i bought my beardys babies from had one in the house roaming around - i had never considered it before but will probably do it myself when they are bigger. it was the babies father - apparently he loves to cuddle up with the dogs.

i also have 3 ferrets, so my house is already pet proof cos those little blighters can get where water cant.

I had my hubby build a very simple wooden playpen for our 8 wk old beardie, Boodah. My hubby is a carpenter so we had some finished wood around. It measures roughly 3' x 3'. It's about 8 or 9" high be/c Boodah is an escape artist n can jump like crazy. I put a basking lamp on one side, with his stuffie n some other toys. He absolutely luvs being in his play yard n it keeps him away from the dogs. When he's bigger it will b easier but he's wicked fast n everytime he runs our lab alerts n focuses on him. She would never intentionally hurt him but rite noe she thinks he a mouse or something!

We let our dragon roam around the apartment all day, everyday. We have her light out and a nice pad for her to hang out under the light. She roams and we play hide and seek when she falls asleep in the corner. She loves to crawl into wires and go to sleep! So cute! The only place we don't let her go is the bathroom, as she likes to get cosy with the toilet and we think that cannot be healthy for her. We have even started letting her roam around the hall when she goes to the door, she likes it out there!

The only thing to worry about is just keeping an eye on her and knowing where she is in case she runs under our chairs or is gone from her light for too long!

She especially likes when we put a mirror around for her, she loves to watch us through the mirror and check herself out!
