Hi all! My dear Spyro hasn't been doing well for the past week. He's not eating, always seems to have a black beard, and seems kinda sad ☹️ He's 2 and a half years old, and has always been a voracious eater, although less fond of his veggies. His diet consists of hornworms, superworms, endives, escarole, butternut squash, and the occasional fruit. His basking area is 100 in the high spot and 105 in the low spot. The cool side of his tank sits at 85 degrees F. My tank is an Exo Terra measuring 36x18x24. I use a dual fixture with a 75w Reptisun and a 50w Reptisun basking bulb. I use the 34 inch Reptisun 10.0 UVB with the corresponding 36 inch fixture.

I obtained and installed this new fixture about 2 weeks ago, and he displayed energy like he never had before! He was pooping everywhere! Predominantly urate, but still everywhere! I noticed fresh blood in his urate a couple days ago and figured it could be hydration, so I've started him on a regular bath routine every couple of days. His tail is still bulky and the fat pads on his head aren't concave. I think he may be about to shed as his hue had started to take on that typical pale shade that comes prior. I'm worried about him and hope that he doesn't have parasites. There is a Vet nearby that has at least one reptilian specialist that I know of, so I'll take him if need be. Any advice? Questions?

The new T5 UVB light should be a great improvement. I'm sorry to hear he isn't feeling well. The combination of lethargic behavior and the constant black beard would have me concerned, especially after seeing him pass some blood. I would bring him into the vet and have a fecal test done and maybe a blood test to see how his systems are functioning.

are you positive Spyro is a male ? Some females go crazy when carrying eggs, then become lethargic if they don't find a suitable laying area.

I'm pretty sure Spyro is a male, and he is my only dragon. His eyes have gotten squinty. I'm taking hin to the Vet tomorrow ?

Can you post a pic with his tail arched up while he is sitting or laying flat on a table or in his tank ? Just pull the tail up in the way that a dog would have it's tail up when excited , almost over the back [ like a husky ] and take a couple pis. Pics of the dragon itself might be good, too. Here's how to post pis :

Very nice looking dragon. :) Beard looks a bit dark but not black. Were you going to post pics of the rear end [ with tail arched up like I mentioned in previous post ] so I can tell you the gender ?

I will after I take him to the vet tomorrow! I recently recorded the most recent temps in the tank. His basking area measured 112F. A recent reading had read 105, so I'm going down to one bulb to cut down the heat. I gave him 2 baths today, the poor little guy is probably dehydrated. I feel like a fool ?

The reasoning for my dual fixture was to be adequate at 18 inches, and it had proved sufficient in the past with two bulbs inside. I was previously using one of those crappy Micro UVBs, and upgraded to the Reptisun 10.0 UVB Tube. I just want what's best for him ?

Hello,

How is your dragon doing?
You are using a Reptisun 10 tube & the distance to him is how far?
They usually prefer the basking to be in a range of 95-110.
Let us know how the vet visit goes. I hope he is feeling better soon.

The UVB was 6in at the high points and 24 at the low ones. He was very nonresponsive when I woke up yesterday, and I'm afraid that he passed away shortly before I went to the vet. They gave him a calcium injection and nutrients, but he just layed there. They told me to keep him under a light for 24 hours and I have. I think he's gone ? He's not stiff is the odd thing, just limp. Part of me hopes he's just in some sort of stasis because he's ill, but I'm certain that isn't the case. I miss him already ?

I'm so very sorry to read this. :( What a beautiful dragon Spyro was.....so many beardies getting sick in the prime of their lives. My heart goes out to you, I know you're devastated. I still wonder if Spyro was possibly a female carrying eggs. At any rate, I'm so sorry. :(

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
