Sometimes, I have to separate their lips at the side and put a little in that way. Then they kind of get the idea and start licking when I drop it on their noses. It's hard sometimes. Hang in there! He will catch on.

Picky little bugger, isn't he? I wonder if you just put a teaspoon of the baby food down for him he'd take it?
I'll bet you are incredibly frustrated. I sure would be. I'd put him to bed and try again tomorrow. :?

Hello,

He is most likely dehydrated or may have low calcium possibly. Viral or bacterial infection also. Does he seem to have any trouble breathing?
Even though he is eating the phoenix worms, he will still need some other calcium supplementation simply due to him growing. I would still supplement several times per week, or up to 5. It depends on how many phoenix worms he actually is eating.
As suggested, monitoring the color & hardness of the urates is a very good way to monitor the calcium intake.

Let us know how he is doing.

Great to hear from you Tracie. Yes, he seems to be breathing very hard at long intervals. He is still falling over and he'll seem fine but he will suddenly start running and falling all over. I've noticed that as soon as its about to happen he will start trying to find somewhere to be secure.

You might want to seriously consider a visit to the vet. Poor guy. I know how hard it is to watch him like this.

All vets are closed today, unfortunately. I thought the same thing.

ulysses did the same! i ended up with more soaks, slightly higher temp (like, 97,98) and dripping water on his nose. he eventually started little licks, then i put some baby food(chicken with broth mixed with calcium) up to his mouth on my finger and he took a few licks- he also liked no-sugar apple sauce, i just tried to get some in his mouth as much as i could- syringe wasn't working for him, he stayed clamped shut. i was lucky enough to get a light ballast from a pal and able to run out and get a reptisun 10.. two days later he's active and eating tiny crickets like crazy! i hope your little fella feels better soon, i know i was soo worried and felt so bad for baby.. best thoughts headed your way...

Thanks a ton. I'll try that. You always seem to lift my mood with your posts :)

I just went to the vet. He thought it was an ear infection and gave me soe medicine for that. More good news- he ate a couple of worms!! Just two, but everything counts at this point. It's so weird- its almost as if he as double vision. He kept missing the worms. I'll keep you updated.

Hello,

Oh that is too bad he is having that much trouble!
It was an ear infection most likely then? Which meds did he give you for that?
At least he did eat a couple of worms. If he was having trouble with his aim, the infection can cause balance issues too.
Just be sure to keep him well hydrated, along with getting him the vitamins & calcium regularly, too.

Keep us posted on your little baby.

He thought it was probably an ear infection, but wasnt 100%. The medicine is .05 Ml of Baytril per day for 7 days.

poor little fella! hope the meds help- and if antibiotics, do a search on the forum for probiotics, to help keep the gut healthy- ulysses and taft are rooting for ya! :blob8:

Great news. He ate 21 medium Phoenix Worms. He is still falling over but it looks promising. I'll keep you posted-

By the way, what is the best probiotic? Soy Yogurt? I'll try that stuff.

Hello,

Thanks. The .05ml of Baytril looks good if he is under 100 grams.
At least he ate pretty well though!
You can get some non dairy soy yogurt or acidophiliz for him, to give daily.
Be sure to keep his tank around 80 overnight right now to help keep his immune system boosted.

Let us know how he is doing.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
