Beardie fall

Her beard doesn’t seem as black but she is still doing the “silent screaming” as I call it / mouth gaping and her eyes just look pained. I stopped with the meloxicam halfway through the week because I accidentally left it out overnight and she thrashed around when I gave it to her and then retreated to her hide- so I wasn’t sure if it was causing more trouble than helping? I was also worried about keeping her properly hydrated for it bc she doesn’t drink - she usually gets all her hydration from food and she hasn’t been interested in eating. I just don’t know what to do with her.

Is the serrapeptase administered orally in a syringe? I am open to trying something else for her, but I don’t want her to re-injure herself as I’m giving it to her?

I would get the serrapeptase for her Serrapeptase - Bug-De-Lite
she does look like shes not doing good -- please spray her head w/ a water bottle and see if you can get her to start licking-- you can try putting a salad plate under her head kinda prop her up on the plate and see if she will lower her head when the water starts dripping off her and see if she will lick off the plate --

Ok - thanks. I thought I had to be really careful not to get water in her nostrils? If I spray her head won’t it drip in there?

I should say - I’ve tried pipetting water onto her snout and she won’t lick the drips. I’m also dripping some water in when I can get it while she “silent screams” - she doesn’t like that though.

Keep offering the water every 2 days - let it drip off her head - it should not go into the nostrils- she will drink if shes thirsty

Hello,

How are things going for your girl, is she taking fluids now without too much trouble?
As Karrie stated, if you simply drop fluids onto her nose the water shouldn't go into her nostrils
at all. Hopefully she will just start to lick the water off of her nose.
Please keep us posted on her.

I am able to drop some water on her tongue when she’s gaping, so that is good. Although she will close her eyes at me when I do it. She has never been one to lick drips off her snout though - even when she was well.

She hasn’t been eating, but she has been moving to the basking side of her tank to warm up and back to her hide at night to sleep. And she did poop once this week.

She does still seem to be in pain and is still gaping periodically, but her beard isn’t black. I ordered the serrapeptase - waiting for it to come. Hopefully that will help out!

Thank you for following this!

Ember will very rarely walk in front of me now. I have found her a couple times either wedged sideways between her bask platform (about 2” off the ground) and the wall or today just found her on her back beside it. She did manage to flip herself over. When she walks, she kind of wobbles left and right- so her left side goes up and then her right side goes up - like a ship bobbing in the waves? It’s really weird. It looks like she is about to tip over before she stops. And she has a hard time keeping her head up when she walks. I’m going to call the vet again on Monday.

Please use dish towels or hand towels or towels in the tank for basking area - get a surface basking temp w/the probe -- issue sounds neurological --

Her bask spot is lower now. Should I shoot for higher than 95 degrees? UVB is 12” above her.

I also placed some Repashy grub pie on her tongue as she was gaping. So at least she’s getting some food and vitamins now. She wouldn’t eat roaches off my fingers or veg when offered to her so I assumed she didn’t want to eat. So trying a different tactic now.

Yes, I think it’s neurological- concussion? Would she still be affected 1.5 weeks after fall? I can’t really tell about her eyes’ focus - hard to see both at once. She is usually sideways. They def don’t seem as alert as normal though.

I am not sure the vet would need to look at her eyes- sideways? As in sitting on her side?

No - I mean she is always just sitting with 1 side facing me (like in the picture). So I can’t see both of her eyes at the same time - I wasn’t sure if comparing her eyes to each other was a way to tell if she’s concussed?

Not sure- have the vet examine them-- my one dragon was recently diagnosed w/ abnormal pupil in one eye and cataract in the other - he can't see well at all-

Hello,

How is your girl doing?
Is her balance improving? If she has some type of injury it can definitely last awhile sometimes.
You mentioned her beard hadn't been dark?
I hope she is feeling better! Are you getting some food into her?

I can’t really tell if her balance is improving. She’s still wobbly, so she still has some sort of issue. She did come out yesterday and walk/wobble around the room. And her beard isn’t black any more. However, she does still gape her mouth and puff out her beard periodically- I can’t figure out what that means. The one good thing about it is it allows me to drip water on her tongue, put food in her mouth, and give her the serrapeptase. She won’t eat something if you offer it in front of her though.

I called the vet, and she said we could get her another x ray from a different position to see if a disc was slipped or something like that. But it sounded like if that happened, there’s not much they can do? I guess I’m just not sure how much time it’s supposed to take for her to heal before we figure out if this is permanent. Or to tell if she’s still in a lot of pain.

I do have a question about the serrapeptase- is it better to give her smaller doses more frequently throughout the day or the one full dose once a day?

Thank you for monitoring her!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
