Beardie behavior interacting with other animals?

We have MeatHead whom is around 7 months old, we also have a cat whom is around 3 years old. We are going to be either declawing or putting those cap things on Mary Jane's claws.

I was wondering how beardies interact with other animals. I know they do not get along with other beardies or other lizards. We are fixing Mary Jane's claws so that she cannot tear up the new carpet in the new house or if MeatHead would get along with her so she couldn't scratch her.

What is your opinion or experience with your Beardie and your other pets? Is it advisable to let them play? or no?

They definitely seem curious about one another.

Some people have cats who are terrified of beardies or who will just ignore them, but you would have to know both your animals very well. You might want to wait until your dragon gets a little bigger. I would definitely let them meet through the viv first and if that goes okay, supervise their first few meetings very well. I'm sure that post doesn't help too much but it's my opinion.

I know when my girlfriends jack russel (which wont sit still for a second) comes and visits me for the weekend, all my beardie does is stare at the dog and will not eat or anything when that dog is in the same room. But with the big dog I used to have at my house he did not even notice her, so I guess it all depends on the animal.

okay i really wouldn't recommend getting ur cat declawed. they need them to climb and scratch and defend themselves so i wouldn't do that.

also i wouldnt let other animals interact with ur lizard some people do but its better not to cuz if somthing goes wrong u will never forgive urself and the heartache is too much.

just my 2 cents..

I just have to say, for the record, that the jack russel in question does in fact sit still most of the time accept when certain people get her going. One interesting thing, though, Tyson (the beardie) isn't bothered by her if we are at my boyfriends house or his grandma's house, but when we are in my boyfriends apartment (where Tyson has spent most of his time), Tyson will not eat even if she is in another room. But like I said before, it all comes down to knowing your animals.

Mary Jane seems very interested in MeatHead, however she seems to pay really no attention to the cat most of the time. The rest of the time she will look at her an kind of cock her head in curiosity. Mary Jane likes to watch MeatHead eat, maybe she is fascinated by the way she has to chase her food? lol

Mary Jane is an indoor cat and never never goes outside, which is one reason we were considering declaw. But, Ken said that we can order those claw caps online and are cheap. Apparently they stay on for around 6 months or so. I was just a little scared still that if they did interact with each other and decide to play I was worried about the claw caps or whatever they are called.

Thank you all for your advice, it is always welcome.

I let Elliott out and he doesn't seem to care about my cat. my cat is the exact opposite and very very curious about Elliott. I personally will never let them out together unsupervised. My cat is declawed, and I am all for it on indoor cat's btw. My cat is perfectly happy and able without his claws and so is my furniture. The occasional mouse in the winter...not so happy.

I have 4 beardies and 2 cats. I have let the boys out (beardies = boys, cats = girls) and all the girls do is sniff them. I let Lindy out one day - who is 9 months - and he crawled around on the couch and found a "spot" and he had a cat on either side just watching him. Neither cat bothered him at all, just watched. Sooooo I think it all depends on your animals.

I'd say it depends on your animals.
I've found out that my cat hates my beardie, but my dog is super interested.
We haven't let the beardie out to roam around with the dog yet, but we've held her out to him and he licked her tail and things.
She didn't seem too fussed, but when she got fed up she just crawled back up my arm away from him.
So yeah.
Hyper dog vs chilled out lizard... we'll see how it goes.

I've also had her introduced to one male and one female beardie, and she wasn't really that interested in them.
They just chilled out together, and she toddled off on her own.
Godd luck with yours, but it does really depend on your animals. Try introducing them slowly, and see how it goes?

It does depend on the type of beardie, seeing as different beardies have different personalities.
My beardie hates all kinds of animals, he can tolerate dogs for a little bit but then when he really sees them he gets extremely angry.
He'll puff his beard out and flatten out his body and open his mouth and hiss.
So it really depends on your beardie. If your beardie does get really angry all the time it's shown your cat, I wouldn't recommend having him around it too much because it will stress him out. It would be okay if they are just curious about each other though, just watch them closely to make sure things stay calm between the two :)

Thank You everyone for all your ideas and advice. I think I will take it one step at a time. If one seems to dislike the other than we will just have to shut off the cat in a bedroom like we have been doing when we get MeatHead out.

Another thing is, you have to be careful not to get your cat p'd off with the beardie, because I know for sure mine would sulk for days if we shut her up while we had the beardie out.
I'd say that unless she's attacking the beardie, or stressing it too much, then give her the option of being in the room, or being fussed over by one person while the other has the beardie out. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
