I was so excited, it was my FIRST dragon. I ordered it, everything was normal, he came just a little bit ago this morning, A CARDBOARD BOX WITH TAPE ALL AROUND IT. and I was like WTF and I rushed to get him out because I know he couldnt breathe in there. Took him out, he was dark and wasnt moving, arms to his sides. UPS, your getting sued Inappropriate language removed by Moderator

WITH BLOOD (we think) on the newspaper shreds. Man, this is ridiculous, quit Inappropriate language removed by Moderator hiring UPS drivers off the street.

Oh, thats terrible. What a awful thing to happen, especially with your first dragon. I would look more to blame the packaging then the driver though, if a dragon is packed proper then they can take a lot of shaking around.
I hope the place you bought from has a good guarantee.

It was packaged in a smaller cardboard box, with tape around it, the beardie was in like a snake bag with newspaper shreds..now i'm so nervous to ever order online again, and I will not buy from a petstore because they don't treat them right..where do I even go now? :'(

Unfortunately, you do have to expect the occasional loss of a live animal during shipping. Sometimes it's nobody's fault - they may get overstressed, overheated, too cold, etc.

How was the snake bag secured within the box? If it was just rattling around in shredded newspaper, that's not a lot of support. I would have preferred some foam peanuts or something like that. The snake bag is probably OK, though my beardie came in a small tupperware-like dish, nestled in some soft paper towels and then packed in a box so it couldn't bounce around. I think the harder dish gave him some body protection.

Typically, a breeder will replace an animal lost in shipping, so do ask about that. How old was the dragin, BTW?

All there was in the box was the snake bag, but the box was small so it fit in there without bouncing around too much I would think..we called the breeder, she said to pick out another one..the beardie was 3 months old and a week or so.

Oops i mean all there was in the box was the snake bag, which had newspaper shreds but thats it, nothing on the outside of the snake bag

Was the box marked with a "This side up" marking?

I'm wondering if the beardie might have somehow gotten upside down, since they can't breathe that way. From your description, it sounds like it probably wasn't an impact problem - more likely stress, temps or getting placed upside down.

Overnight shipping I presume?

this is a sad story, and it breaks my heart, when i look at beadies online that im considering ordering, i picked that one cause he/she "spoke" to me and i knew that was the one i wanted. my biggest fear with ordering online is getting my beardie that im already fond of through pictures and it not be alive. i hope atomiclizardranch.com takes care of you and sorry for your loss.

i would suggest asking for your money back and going to a different breeder. it sounds like she wasnt packed very well.

Hello,

I am very sorry that this happened. I agree, I would think about going with a different breeder because your next one may arrive in the same manner.
It is unacceptable to pack a bearded dragon in a snake bag, or at least that is not how I would pack one anyway. If there was no padding in the box other than the newspaper shredding then he got bounced around so terribly that there is no telling how horribly injured he was internally.
I am so sorry, that would not be a pleasant thing for him to have gone through, especially but then to have to open a box & see him like that either.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
