Bearded dragon only eats crickets when hand fed?

Hello!! I've been hand feeding my bearded dragon crickets for a while now. She never does touch them when I simply dump them in the cage, she just sits there and does nothing. Even if they crawl close to her, she'll just look at them for a second then look away. If they crawl on her she'll just shake them off. She only eats crickets when I hand feed them to her. The same thing goes for greens and fruit, she only eats them hand fed... How can I get her to eat crickets on her own?

I know for a fact she's not blind. I don't really know what the problem is...

It sounds like you have made your beardie dependent on you . Mine was the same so i had to leave him til he was hungry and he stated doing it by himself!

I agree. Sounds to me like u have a spolied beardie! lol :mrgreen:
I would just leave the greens in his enclosure fot he day & when he gets hungry...he will eventually start eatting them.

So you have one of those beardies. Been there! My friend constantly hand fed Oscar so he thought that is how he is supposed to eat.

Do you usually feed first thing in the morning? I would wait until afternoon if you could. This way the beardie is more likely to be hungry.

I started with dropping one right in front of him (as opposed to hand feeding). Then dropping them a bit further away. We are working on getting him to eat from his dish. Just keep trying, one or two crickets at a time until he eats them, LOL

You may also want to try a feeding bin or something. Put the beardie in, drop in some crics and leave the room for a few minutes. He may decide to start chasing them then.
