You're going to need a fixture too, which can be ordered off here or bought at petstores. The coil bulb is very harmful, so I'd try to get that reptisun in as soon as possible. Compact and coil bulbs are very bad for beardies, there are a few threads on this site explaining the damage they can do. Make sure you only get the reptisun 10. Most reptiglo bulbs are bad except the reptiglo 8 which got discontinued. Petmountain sells the reptisun at a very cheap price! Plain old digital with probe thermometers are sold at petstores, but then you have to buy another one to measure your cool side temps. That's why I love the Acurite, it does both, plus humidity.

i went to reptile store today, a got a new tank for henrik
the boy in the shop gave me / vivarium thermostat temp control system,elstein infrared elements lamp wattage is 250. ave got a exo terra repti glo 10.0 UVB what aye am using until new tank is ready. the boy in shop said i can keep tht repti glo 10.0 and use it in new tank.?? havent got a long bulb he gave me a lamp like bulb?? he says all wat he has giving me is the right stuff. does any of this help.???
aye am using terrariumsand, white,fine 0.1-0.5mm

The coil shaped bulbs are no good
Repti glo 10.0 is fine
no to the sand is what she means
the sand can be eaten and make his stomach block basically
use kitchen towel or newspaper for a cheap and safe flooring

Sorry to say, Reptiglo 10s can be very harmful. I'd recommend a Reptisun 10 or an MVB. What size tank did the petstore give you? If I were you, I'd shop by myself and not let petstore employees trick you into buying such things. Otherwise, you end up losing money in the end. Sorry if I missed this, but are you in the UK? If so, I'd order the Arcadia 12, which is an awesome bulb. If you're in the US, reptisun 10 is a great bulb too. Make sure you buy TUBE bulbs, not compact or coil bulbs! You don't need fancy basking bulbs, you can just use ordinary household bulbs. Right now, Duke's under a 65 watt flood light, and a smaller watt spotlight and his temps are within 100-101º. You can play around with wattages and such. I'm sorry to say that you're probably going to have to return the bulbs you got, if they let you. I returned my reptiglo 10 after using it for 30 minutes. The lady was dumbfounded when I gave it back. Good luck, and again, keep us updated!

thanks. a never bought the reti glo10,got it with the henrik when a bought him. am from the uk "scotland" all need to wait until end of month b4 a kin get a another bulb. all order the arcadia 12. ave got a elstein lamp is tht ok to keep him warm with?? my temps are up since aye got the new lamp. got a vivarium thermostat conrol system anaw, is tht ok? just need to change repti glo10
my tank is 48" long / 21" high / 18" width.
henriks size is from nose tip to end of tail - 21" :lol:
A went back to stricty reptiles from where a got my things, the woman says shes uses the reptie glo10 and its fine??? 1 person telling me 1 thing and 1 person the other

Aye took henrik to the vets on thursday, shes said that hes fine perfect looking beardie she said lol my temps are higher now and ave got him on crickets instead of hoppers.
does your beardie ever sleep on the floor on viv?? mines has done this alot since i have got my new tank and lights?
am wondering how many crickets per day you want to give to your beardie??
got waxworms anaw and hes loves thum. thanks for the help

No problem, glad the vet visit went well. Duke sleeps on the floor every night, unless I put his hammock up (it falls down a lot). When I fed crickets, I fed as much as he could eat in 15 minutes, then I removed the uneaten ones. I find worms a lot easier to keep. Duke also loves waxworms, you've found a great treat there.

You said you're confused because you're hearing 2 different things from us and from the petstore. I don't mean to bag on the petstore employees but I would listen to BD.org. Most petstores are very inaccurate and they sell you products that they think are safe, but really not. Reptiglo 10s can be really bad, however, there is a way to keep them. If you can raise the bulb higher, it would be safer. Good luck!!!

Hi there

Nearly every pet shop in the UK will tell you the reptiglo 10 is fine because they can get these bulbs in cheaper & make more profit on them but the arcadia or reptisun is the right one to get for your BD. Im from the UK too & spent 10 mins arguing with a man in a shop about this the other day.

Please don't listen to anyone at the petstore especially if they're recommending coil bulbs. I would just avoid the employees when you visit the store so they can't scam you into buying harmless products. Listen to us, we know more than the pet store.
