Do bearded dragons bond?
I might be getting a bearded dragon soon, and would like to know about the extent of their ability to bond with certain humans. I have read many conflicting reports all over the net.
A lot says they do bond, but I don’t know what to think because it doesn’t make sense that they would be capable of bonding if they are solitary animals. I want them to be able to bond, though I understand it won’t be like a dog bonding with someone.
Do you find your bearded dragon has bonded to you? (Or someone else)
How can you tell? What does it do? Does it behave differently? Does it being male, female, hatchling, juvi or adult make much of a difference?
Thanks

I feel like mine have bonded to me. :) Maybe not quite as much as say, my rabbit or my dog, but I feel that he likes me and enjoys my company. After I get back from a vacation, he seems pretty happy to see me and he LOVES to cuddle!
My first beardie I rescued as a baby, and my current boy I adopted as an adult. IMO you form a special bond with any animal you rescue, and really I love/loved my boys :) Personally, I prefer to adopt adults, but I dont think it makes much of a difference bonding-wise.

Thanks for the reply Jess :D
It sounds like your beardie has bonded to you which is awesome

And that is such a cute photo!

Yeah they totally bond and will definitely get more comfortable with certain humans over others...if my wife is holding lil John Casey, he will always try to get over to me and my lap. Kind of the same way dogs will prefer certain people over others and such.

Our girls have bonded with us to the extent that they don't want us to put them back in their vivs. They prefer being on us 24/7. They cling to us like velcro, even with their eyes closed at night putting them back.

Yes, I believe they are capable of bonding - or at the least recognizing who their care giver is. Dewey is my one and only and I've only had him for about 8 months, but he seems to enjoy being with ME. When I take him out of his viv he loves to sit on my shoulder or across my chest and when he gets sleepy he nuzzles his head into my neck and then he drifts off to dream world. When I try to put him back in his viv he grabs onto my hand and does not want to let go. Whether or not that's a bond or just his not wanting to be in the viv, I guess only he knows. Still, I can tell that when other people that he's not familiar with try holding him he does not seem to be as comfortable and the second he's back in my arms he relaxes again. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
