After eating today, I noticed that RIdley's lower neck/beard area was distended a bit. He didn't eat hardly any salad this morning and gorged in insects (crickets and supers) late this evening instead. He didn't eat much more then normal, but he ate super fast, snapping up multiple crickets at a time.

If beardies eat too fast, do they like hold some of it in the throat or something? He's not showing any distress and basking as normal, but it just looks odd.

Info please?

I've noticed when my boy eats a bunch of dubia and heads up to bask, his beard/throat looks full too. Eventually it goes down and I haven't really had any reason to worry. I think I read a post where someone had mentioned their beardie would "pocket" it's food then go bask to digest :)

I think it is because they eat until they are completely full and the last few feeders are waiting to go past the gullet into his stomach :p. I like the throat pocket expression as well. Haha.

This happens when they eat faster then they can swallow. Gideon does it too sometimes so I feed him slower, making sure he swallows before offering more bugs.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
