With the gun I have, the dot ranges from ~⅛" (3mm) @ 2" (50mm) away to ¼" (6mm) @ 4' (1.22m) away. I always/only take measurements within range per mfr. instructions, and average multiple readings within a 4" (100mm) x 4" area. You've seen my setup.
Temps are consistent, and I've verified readings around the enclosure w/ digital thermometers w/ probes enough times that I trust the gun ±2°F (picture is same I converted to C last time).
