Okay, I posted in another forum and never received a reply. I have had my baby for 3 weeks now and I got him/her from a PetSmart. Kiwi has never had much of an appetite but I have been able to get him to eat a few crickets every day and just a few pieces of veggies that I have hand fed with tweezers. I figured the lack of appetite was just relocation stress.
But recently in the last week, he has started hiding all day. His appetite has fluctuated a little bit, going from eating nothing one day to eating 9 crickets (smaller than the width between his eyes) the next. I have given him some flukers Reptiboost to supplement the fact that he hasn't been eating a lot. His poops have been normal, about 1-2x a day depending on how much he ate the day before.
His tank set up is as follows..
20 gallon tank
Paper towel for substrate
75 watt basking bulb mounted right next the the UVB bulb 12 inches from the main basking spot and 14 inches from the rock he likes to hide under.
18 inch 15 watt 10.0 T8 reptisun bulb mounted 10 inches from the main basking spot
The basking spot stays about 100-108 depending on the amount of airflow in the room (door open or shut).
The cool side is about 72-75 degrees on average.
I take temps with digital probe thermometers
Several hides/branches and a water dish.
I am very concerned because he is just hiding all day now in the last week. He comes out to poop and when I physically remove the hide so that he can eat. I place him on the basking spot when he is done and he only stays there for a half hour before he crawls back into his hide.
Are the lights too bright? The temps in the basking spot are barely staying hot enough with the light setup moved back so far from the top of his cage that I had to turn on the red basking bulb that came with the terrible "starter" pack from PetSmart. Could he be sick? I am at a loss.
