50 to 75 crickets? That' is insane. I do not think this little beardie could ever eat that much. @ 5 weeks yours ate that much??
That is a correct figure. At that age our dragon, Chief, ate 75-100 crickets a day. How do we know? My husband would put a large number of crickets in a bag and pick Chief up, put him down on the floor of his tank, and drop crickets one at a time in front of him, counting each one. He would easily count 25-30 crickets each feeding, and he fed him three times a day. When Chief was 10 days all the way to 6 months old we had the morning-noon-night ritual of cricket feeding, one at a time, counting them. The reptile shop we got him from told us to feed him 6-10 crickets. Don't listen to those people. :silent:
We would cut his greens into little pieces and offer them in the morning, about an hour after Chief woke up and was warm under his light. My husband would put the greens on his hand and offer them to Chief, who would eat a decent amount. Then he would get his 25+ cricket breakfast, the same cricket lunch and then another cricket supper at least 2 hours before lights off, so he could have time under the heat to digest them.
We have 6 bearded dragons now, and I can say for sure during the baby months, while they are doing their growth spurts, they will thrive best on unlimited protein offered 2 - 3 times a day.
