Hey everyone,
Axel had been doing really good. Now he has decided that eating is not in the cards! I have tried every type of food I can think of for him and he just won’t eat or maybe eat a little bit one day and then no more. He shakes his head at live feeders (except hornworms, which is a blue moon treat for him.) and is far from interested in veggies even the ones he used to love. I’ve even tried to repashy and he’ll only do a little bit of a slurry dropper. He’s losing weight and I’m starting to worry. Here is my setup
48x24x15 PVC AP cage- it has a bulb on each side. His basking area is on the left and It has a 50 watt spot bulb that heats to 99-104.5 degrees throughout the day. The other side has a nano bulb for light and limited heat keeping it around 82-86 degrees. He has a Arcadia T-5 12% with a reflector (lightyourreptiles purchase) and completely slate and porcelain tile floor. He has various decorations (wooden jungle gym, a wooden hide and a rock log cave.) and two food and water dishes. His humidity is never too high (between 10-30%). His basking tile is raised and he has no problem basking, it’s pretty much all he does. He black beards a lot since he started refusing most food and he darkens himself a lot more too.
Food: I had a very healthy Dubia Colony, he loved them at first from switching when he was about 3 months old to them and treat worms exclusively now he is a little over a year old and now hasn’t eating one in months, I got rid of them because they weren’t being eaten and it was becoming too much. I order them every so often to see if he’ll go for it and the answer is always no. I’ve tried super worms he ate a good bit of them for a little while and then quit on me, (no impaction, if he eats he poops within 1-2 days.) I have tried BSFL he doesn’t show interest even when they wiggle. He might eat one or two. He will eat waxworms sometimes, if I get them to wiggle. He loves hornworms. I ordered some butter worms because he likes those and I’m hoping he will give them the time of day I put veggies in (as varied as I can make it without sacrificing staples. His veg consists of everything from bell peppers to butternut squash some fruit and a staple (turnip, collard or mustard). I have even tried beardie buffet in a slurry and he’ll eat some off his nose. I’m at a loss here.
Any help tips or suggestions are fully welcomed. thanks!
