I've been trying to research them since I've bought them and all I've read about them is all negative. I'm so worried now because I can't afford to go back and by dubia instead. Are there any benefits or pros to using lobsters as feeders? Please share them if so. I was really excited to start our own colony and now I'm really bummed since it seems like everyone hates them. :(

fast breeders and are soft bodied....

Lol, that's all you have huh? J/K. Well I guess fast breeding is a plus. So maybe I could consider them a "frugal feeder"?

They have more meat in relation to the body size than dubias....and have less chitin. But they are more difficult to deal with with their captive care because they climb smooth surfaces, such as glass.

But they are containable right? I'm afraid to open the bin and have loads of roaches come flying out at me. Also, I don't put feeders right into the enclosure. I use a separate tub for feeding or use tweezers and hand feed (especially icky things like roaches). Do you guys think I'll be okay?

If you're looking for a fast-breeding, nutritious feeder, then lobsters are it. Just be prepared for the lightning-fast way they climb ANY surface. And for the disgusting Vaseline barrier that you WILL stick your hands in. And keep them locked away from pets like dogs/cats who WILL be curious and eat them or get Vaseline in their fur or both. And reserve a space in your freezer for when you get completely disgusted with them. Otherwise enjoy!

Um...thanks? I think I might cry

I was really trying to save our family a little $$ since we spend about $100 online every 2 weeks on crix alone. That's not including any reptiworms or waxworms or treats or anything we buy to supplement. I also like to buy a wide variety of greens and veggies and occassional fruits and things for them. *sigh*

I was really hoping this would be a good thing for us :(

Well hopefully they will work out better for you!! When do you get them?

I just bought them on Friday I think? My days are running together a bit. They'll be shipping out on Monday. As long as I can keep them contained and under the vaseline barrier I think I'll be okay to quickly grab them with pointed tweezers one at a time. It takes me a little longer to feed everyone this way but I like it because then I can make sure they get one on one time each day.

Get bugstop from Proexotics.... You just apply it like Vaseline all around the inside at the top of the container to prevent them from climbing over and escape. And, also, get a large, heavy, ceramic, dog bowl and apply this stuff on side, on the inside, to prevent the roaches from escaping and put the roaches in it for the bearded to eat. The heavy bowl prevents the bearded from knocking it over. This way you don't have to feed them one by one.

Thank you for the tips! Is bugstop very different from using vaseline? I'll check that out asap. Thank you again!

I have a feeling it's gonna be really hard for you to get them one by one with the tongs. At least pit some in a bowl and then catch them out of there

Yes, after you apply to the side it will dry and become like a coating, but the roaches can't climb on it for some reasons.

Lobsters are probably the most nutritious roaches you can ever buy.... I'm thinking of getting some myself to offer varieties instead of just giving my animals dubias. These things breed out of control, let me tell you! You'll have a colony going in no time.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
