Anyone use mealworms???

I know you are not supposed to feed mealworms, but I talked to a breeder today that says he thinks Frankie is big enough to start the very small ones. Anyone use these? She's tried a couple and she loves them!!!!! I know they are suppose to be bad for them. But this guy said they are a great sorce of protein. Just wandering if anyone uses mealworms.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO mealworms.
wax worms peonix worms, butterworms, any of these would be better.
Crickets, roaches these are probably the best staple insects.

Meal worms are very high in fat and can cause impaction that can sometimes result in death. Young dragons are especially susceptible to this because they have many twists in their digestive system. Meal worms should be avoided, I know it's hard to deprive them of something they seem to like so much, but it's for the best. When he gets to be full grown (at least 16") you can start to feed him superworms which are like really big meal worms except a lot healthier.

If you're looking for an excellent feeder worm for a young dragon try phoenix worms. They're great, high in protien high in calcium and very soft.
