I'm havin a hard time here getting here to budge, I recently got a Green Tree Python, and am really looking at getting a dragon. Now I know they are expensive at first, supplies (tank, etc), and food, but man how do I get her on this one. Almost like I'm living with my father, who never let me have reptiles when I was a kid lol. Anyways any stories or thoughts would be great....thanks!!

its hard to say, what is her main concern with it? money? or is she scared of reptiles? or is she just generaly not interested?

probably money, but I'll have all the money for the start all the supplies...which then leaves food....

well thats a pretty good arguement, and it is alot of money to get everything started. i think if you saved the money and had it waiting in a jar and everything else was squared away she would feel better about it. do your best to find the best deals too so you buget having leftover funds, for example i got my reptisun bulb off petmountain for 28 bucks includeing shipping that saves about $20 there as opposed to pet shop, i got my fixture at home depot for $18 total, which saves alot, i bought my reptical suppliments off ebay for like 13 bucks with shipping, when i seen it for 17 bucks in the pet shop, so you see there is a little shopping around here and there that can save you big$ in the end, a big cost is the tank, do you have one or know where your getting it?

Just whine, beg, and pout long enough! haha! :D Just kidding...I had it easy...I asked my girlfriend if I could get one and she said yes right away and SHE suggested we breed roaches in the house for it! Time to get married I think!

Save on cost and build the cage yourself. For a little less than $150 my husband built the cage with fixtures and tile substrate and that was using really expensive materials. I think you could do it cheaper. Also get a colony of dubias going now so that you aren't buying alot in the beginning. This is how I convinced my hubby to let me get them!

Or you could do like I did. I was out shopping with my granddaughter and we seen the most adorable dragon that my granddaughter wanted. How could I say no to her? So we bought the dragon and all the supplied and brought it home. Keep in mind, my husband hated reptiles of any kind. All he did was shake his head saying "I can't believe you brought a scaled animal home". He repeated that a million times. Guess what, 6 months later he is asking me to find him a female dragon. Now we have two females and one male.

you bro it's easier to say sorry then it is to ask.

hahahahahaha so true so true. I inherited mine from a friend without telling my parents, i came home they weren't happy but they got over it in a day or 2. Mind you i have always had reptiles so they weren't stressing too bad

I constantly bug my boyfriend about getting dragons. I generally take them in from friends or customers at my store who just don't want them anymore. I rehome some and others I keep. My boyfriend usually has a small fit about me getting another, but he gets over it. After all, I do all the work for them myself. And he always says he "doesn't like the beardies" but I know he goes in to check on them when I'm not home. Plus, he doesn't complain about turning lights on or off and he loves feeding them superworms. So his arguement doesn't hold up well.

I was very lucky that after years of being together my boyfriend new how much I adored reptiles. Ive always loved them but my parents have never allowed me to keep any.
Now that my boyfriend and I live together on my 21st birthday he took me as a suprise to the local reptile rescue centre and told me I could pick whatever I wanted as a present.
Forget the diamond ring I recieved, that was the best gift anyone could have given me.

The best thing I can imagine you doing is sitting her down here and letting her look through the "photo expressions" topic.
I defy anyone to look through tons of adorable photos and not have their heart melted!

Good luck.

Has your wife seen a baby beardie, IRL? That's all it took for my son to convince me. I remember saying, "Lizards are cute. Who knew?"

Only problem is--and I believe everyone here can appreciate this--I've been totally bogarting the beardie. I mean, complete helicopter Grandma-ing the lizard. *hover hover* I just love the little deary. I actually had to apologize to my son this evening because I felt like I was taking over his pet. He said, "That's ok mom, who wouldn't LOVE Cloudy?" Indeed. So as our evening was coming to a close, we all (my son, my husband and myself) VERY quietly walked upstairs and looked at her sleeping on her vine... head resting on the vine, hands wrapped around the underside, fingers interlaced, legs STRAIGHT back. Precious princess. At least, we're fairly sure it's a girl. We just took a peek for the first time today and it's looking that way. She's about 4 months.

If money is an issue, that's valid. It did take some serious "start up" fees. DS agreed to pay for the lizard (we fronted him the money, withheld his allowance until he was paid up), and DH and I kicked in for the accessories. Man, we got the raw part of that deal. :? Ah, it was worth it. We're looking to trade up for a bigger viv soon, and we're going about it a little slower this time, checking Craigslist and such. That is one regret we have however, is that we didn't just start out with the big tank. I feel like we've had to buy everything twice. Ah, but next time we'll know better. If things keep up the way they are, we might need to buy a whole new dragon... for me. :D

The best and good luck to you!
Em

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
