I worry way too much about impaction to ever feed a full grown roach. XD Nor do I really look forward to handling them honestly. I need to get some plastic tongs or something...

And free shipping!? You generous man you. That's pretty generous in these almost-5-bucks-a-gallon days. I'm glad I don't drive yet. XD I don't have to worry about gas.

He runs a good operation, treats his customers well, and seems like a nice guy to boot. Neither of us would have anything too gain from bickering in public, especially when breeders like Aaron and James are selling roaches like crazy.

BTW, Aaron and James don't exist...its just me and Jason! :D
hehe, kidding

yeah best roach is correct its just us out here. no need to fight like he said it would just look bad on us, not to mention i have my full of custmers everyweek. Treat the custmer wright and provided a good product and they will always return with friends to follow.

as for your questions i think best and eric have pretty much taken care of it.

Hey Roach guy and all!!

I just recently made the switch! This past Saturday I bought a little colony (maybe about 20 or so) from a friend at the rep show.
I have to admit I never thought I would pay for and purposely bring roaches into the house, but I did.
They are very interesting. I find myself watching them - they do have quite the personality.
I haven't fed any to my beardie yet because I have been waiting on a care sheet, breeding sheet, etc. from the girl I bought them from.

I am going to post some pics here in hopes that someone can at least tell me what kind they are. From reading here I beieve they are Dubia(sp?), but I would like to be sure.

Very cool, welcome to the wonderful world of roaches! Your dubia look great. I was just like you, when I made the switch I loved watching my roaches and found them very interesting. I love to check in on my babies, see how much they are eating and especially see all the new baby roaches scurrying around. It is so much fun raising these little critters. Plus Spike really, really loves his roaches - YUM!!!

You will find care info on Jason's sight, http://www.theroachguy.com He has all the info you need to set up your colony and keep them healthy and breeding, it's all at your finger tips right on his site.

Now that you've made the jump to roaches, I suggest you go to http://www.theroachguy.com and buy another 150 mixed dubia to give your colony a bump. You can check out my recent posting here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=88680&p=691542#p691542
Where I outline how my new colony has done since starting it in May and it is now ready for me to begin feeding off of. To get to where I can now feed off them, I started with 55 adult females, 20 adult males and 150 mixed from theroachguy.

Good luck on your colony, and please don't start feeding off them until you get a handle on what it will take to get a breeding colony going, you don't want to waste the money you've already spent on feeding off too soon :D

Keep asking questions on this forum, all the roach people here will be glad to help.

Thank you so much for the info Eric! His site is awesome, and as soon as I am able to, I think I just may buy me some more roaches
I do have a couple of questions though. Just to be sure on a couple specific things.

Can someone point out what the male and female look like using the pics I posted? Example of what I mean - female pic #1, etc.
I have mine in a ten gallon glass aquarium. I do have a light to put on them, but the honey was not happy - "They are just roaches. I am not paying to put a heat light on roaches.' So, can I use a heating pad? I can pick one up real cheap at work.

Yesterday I read the posts about substrate and learned that the walnut shells I was using for Spike was not good at all, so I ran and got some carpet and cleaned his tank out. I have like a 40lb bag of the shells though and I don't want to just waste them, so I used it in the roach tank. I know they don't have to have a substrate, but like I said that walnut was expensive and I don't want to just waste it. Is this okay to use it in the roach tank?

That video on Roachguy' site was just great! I loved how the beardie went after the roach!

I think that was it. Thought there was something else, but I either forgot or there was nothing else.

Thank you all!!

Somewhere on the site is a link to another site showing the differences in male vs. female. I don't know where it is at the moment, and if no one else posts it before I get home tonight, I'll find it.

Anyway, without pics it's pretty easy to sex the grown ones. The males are the ones that have wings and the females don't.

I dont' know how to sex the nymphs.

Here is a link to a tutorial on sexing dubia viewtopic.php?f=18&t=78729&p=614051&hilit=sexing+roaches#p614044

I use a human heating pad on the outside bottom of my tote, it works just fine. I also have a zoo med under tank heater on my other tote and it works just fine too.

That's good you got rid of the walnut shell substrate in your dragons den. Your roaches don't really need substrate, some folk say that it makes it easier for tiny nymphs to get thrown out when you clean and thus makes cleaning and separating roaches harder.

I find walnut shell makes for nice displays on the bottom of mine and dad's more desert-themed miniatures... And that's it. :| Not much good for more than oil spills and non-beardie-related crafts...

i love roaches :) my colony is now substantial enough to feed off of and i'm sooo happy to say this:

NO MORE CRICKETS EVER AGAIN!
Sweet Nesta just don’t go overboard you might feed one to many and make sure you leave plenty to make more adults for the next generation.
Great job.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
