I love dubias.

I feed mine high protein kitten food (36%) and the occasional veggie scrap. I use water crystals to give them water. I got mine from WormMan. He sells the crystals in little pouches that make a gallon when hydrated, so that's handy.

I really recommend the kitten food. It's like 15 bucks for a 20 lb bag, and it lasts FOREVER. The best place to find quality pet food is either at a natural/organic store or perhaps a farm supply store. You want to avoid the cheap pet foods in the grocery store because they use a lot of corn/wheat which lowers the nutritional value and protein content, as well as increasing the possibility of your dragon eating roaches that have eaten tainted pet food (think about the melamin fiasco last year).

always been frustrated with the dubia in that i could not tell a nymph male from a nymph female....well tonight i figured it out...now i just have to be able to take a photo that doesn't come out blurred to show cuz i think it is a very important thing to know....especially if your colony is still a bit small and you feeding off nymphs cuz you want to keep more females around than males and would rather be feeding off more male nymphs.....will post some pics when i have some good ones :)

juice, i think you said before you had geckos my question you is how many do you feed you gecko. a buddy of mine was given a full grown leapord gecko and he was told to give 3-4 med sized dubia every two days. i gave him a couple hundard supers but not sure how many to tell him to give the gecko and how often.
thanks man for the info

since he got an adult it is like that....3 - 4 supers or roaches (change it up to give variety) every 2 days is good cuz otherwise they will just get fat and its not healthy for them (they not like beardies that eat us out of house and home)....mine is still a baby so he gets fed 10 appropriate sized worms or roaches every day....if he is feeding roaches he must do the same thing you do with a beardie and not feed any bigger than the space between their eyes and if he is feeding worms they must be no longer than the length of their hear or they can choke.....dammit...gonna have to wait till morning so i can get some pics of the roaches cuz its not bright enough for my camera to get a clear pic :(

I tried feeding mine a few Dubias from a friend, It seems to like them at least as well as butterworms and phoenix worms, much better than crickets.

I think after my current order of butters runs out I'm gonna set up a colony.

I love my Dubia colony! I probably spent about $150- $200 on adults and nymphs 1-1/2 years ago and that's been it. (I fed off too many of them before the colony was well established so had to buy more) I was spending $25 a month on crickets and half of them die before they get eaten. The roaches breed well (too well actually... I'll be needing to sell some off soon...) I keep them in 2 tubs and clean them about every other month versus every other day with crix. I feed them just a couple of times a week my collection of kitchen veggie and fruit scraps, kitten food and Cheerios or corn flakes, the ends of the loaf of bread. They don't smell and are easier to handle than crickets. I can leave them in his tank and they won't nibble on him while he's sleeping if he doesn't eat them all. The kids' friends get a kick out of watching the lizard chase a roach around the living room floor too. Wouldn't do that with a cricket! I've never been bug phobic so I don't mind any of the bugs, but IMO the Dubia are way less of an ick factor than the crix were.

Just to clear something’s up I just had a few upset emails from recent customers, I posted above for a poster if you buy roaches from me off my site in the pay pal comment section just place a note you saw my add or website from beardeddragon.org and you will get a 20% over count not just the standard 15%, well this offer is for everyone not just that single person. Sorry for the customers who have bought from me in the past but I just started doing this for the forums community.
Thanks a lot Jason

ok...as promised here are my findings with photos. This will show up no matter what stage the roach is at...even works with babies just much smaller...the photos show nymphs in the shed before becoming an adult but thats just so you can see the difference. The difference in the roaches is that the female has one very large last segment on its abdomen and the Male has an extra small segment on the abdomen...to understand look at the following photos:

The female: notice the big last segment:

NOw unfortunately i couldn't find a decent sized nymph male but i had one she this morning so this is a pic of the shed (can still see what im talking about though):note the very small last segment:

DSCN8535.jpg

hope that helps you guys in sexing the nymphs: this is the only way i have found to do it: its pretty easy and should help you keep more females than males

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
