I want to switch... but I'm nervous about it.
Roaches = ewwww factor :(

I'm hoping if I get hired today I'll be able to start one and have it going by the time my Dragons big enough to eat them

I love roaches, I think the ewww factor is much less with roaches than it is with crix. They don't look like the roaches people sometimes have in their homes, don't smell and are really quite interesting. http://www.theroachguy.com will set you up with everything you need. Truly, they are not yucky or gross and the ewww factor is nill.

I think if I told my husband I was going to start breeding roaches he would keel over. I am afraid of all bugs. bleh... I couldn't even look at the pics. :D

Guess I will have to stick with a variety of worm type food. (shivers)

yeah they are nothing like the German or American cock roach most people say they look like big rollie pollies. if you want a small amount just to give them a shot i can send you a very small order but you would have to cover shipping since it would most likely cost more to ship them the roaches would cost you 10.00 would get you 40 dubia shipped let me know if you want to give it a try send my a pm or email me

augsburg1530 did you get your order yet????

Yep, I just got my order of Dubia's this afternoon. 150 beautiful, meaty tasty roaches ready to grow and breed for the benefit of our dragon Spike. I felt sorry for one poor little male nymph, he traveled all the way from Virginia to California in just two days, only to be opened up on the west coast and immediatly set upon by a hungry dragon. Poor little roachie.

Thanks again,

Your suppossed to give them to ur dragon.

These are awesome and I couldn't be happier. I have two bins going. One I feed out of for a couple of months. Then I switch. I just started trying it this way. I am hoping that when my babies start eating I will have plenty of little buggers for them.

Are some of the dubia nymphs small enough to feed to babies, or should I start out with something else? I'm hoping to order a starter kit within the next few months so I have a good colony to start feeding.

Baby nymphs start smaller than 1/8", as such are perfect for the smallest little dragon. From there they grow to various sizes that are appropriate for each life stage of your dragon.

Hey, I think I just came up with a new marketing angle for Dubia's, "Life Stages for Dragons"! You could have Stage 1 for bagies, Stage 2 for adolesents Stage 3 for adults and Stage 4 for the older dragon which is lower in saturated fats, and contains natural herbs and oils to promote joint health, ease defication and promote longer life

When we got Spike I didn't relize how expensive it would end up being to feed him and how stinky crix were.:puke: I can't believe I actually talked the wife into starting a Dubia colony. It also sounds very strange to be paying money to get roaches. Any way I'm planning on ordering a starter kit from the Roach guy today.

RacerX,
I was in the same boat, I couldn't believe how much it cost to get a dragon set up and fed. If I had known from the start, we wouldn't have gotten one. Now, I am glad we have Spike, but def expensive at first. And I know what you mean about roaches. We lived in Alabama for several years and constantly fought roaches, now I not only raise roaches but I tend to them lovingly and think they are neat!

Tend to them lovingly lol yeah the same here when i get the oranges i like to think of it as giving my colones treats. they will take down a 10 lbs bag of oranges in about 30 mins. that about 20 large oranges but there agin i have around 20,000 roaches in each of my bins so its very neat to watch them go at it.
racer x i look forward to helping you get started.
take care everyone

I just to share my experience so far with my roaches. Im just starting my colony and I cant feed out of it reg. yet but my dragons health seems to be improving since giving him roaches. The only other feeder that he likes is silkies. Ive had a really hard time in the last yr getting him to eat and maintain his weight. Now this could be a coincidence but since Ive been feeding him some of the roaches his appetite is increasing and he is eating his salads every day even after he has had a roach or two. Im not sure if this will continue but Im very happy Ive made the switch.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
