Hello,

I have noticed that there have been at least 2 previous topics enquiring about uk members but have since been locked due to inactivity. I thought I would start up a new one as would like to get to know a few beardie slaves closer to home. My name is Stacey (nickname Staz) and I am a new owner to a male bearded dragon called Jade (a story for another day) who is estimated to be about 18months, we live in Greater Manchester - would love to know of anyone else in this area as have a few queries. Look forward to chatting to fellow uk'ers and hearing about your beardies.

I'm Zoe and I've been a beardie slave for nearly 18 months :whip: George is 19 months old and is actually she, which we discovered to our amazement when she laid 18 eggs I live in Halifax so not too far away from you. This board can be pretty slow but please feel free to ask any questions and welcome to the forum

Im Bex, 20 and i live in Tynemouth which is on the coast right next to Newcastle!! i have 2 beardies, they are 11 weeks old and called squirt and bob, think they are both girls but obviously cant be sure right now!!

I'm havin a few issues gettin them to trust me as there a little nervous but we are getting there, i spend time every day putting my hands in and not touching them to make them see im not goin to hurt them. i am also gettin them out when the lights go off and let them snuggle on me, i seem to be gettin there they are gettin less nervous everyday

if anyone has msn, add me i love talkin to fellow beardie owners as frankly my friends dont quite get it.

i also have 5 dogs so its a pretty full house!!

Hi Zoe and Bex,

Nice to hear from some fellow uk beardie slaves. Like you Zoe my beardie was wrongly sexed, however your beardie's name really fits both sexes, you don't get many male Jades so I am expecting a lot of explaining needed through the years!! :roll:

I know what you mean Bex when you say your friends just don't get it...mine either!! The majority have all used the phrase "but it's not cuddly!!" I completely disagree..like you I let mine snuggle into me..if that's not a cuddle I don't know what is!! One of my friends came to visit last weekend and she fell in love with Jade so I am sure over time we can convert everyone to love our family additions!!

So what lead you both to having beardies as pets? I live in an apartment so dogs/cats are out of the question really and I saw an animal documentary with bearded dragons and then when I discovered people had them as pets that was it...had to have one!!

It was my husband who wanted George - I'd never even heard of bearded dragons before. He lost interest pretty quick though so I ended up doing everything for George. We've had worries with her though because when she was a baby, my husband wasn't holding her securely enough and she got away and the cat got her. She ended up losing an eye but she's coped fine without it since. A couple of months ago, she got a bad infection in the missing eye and we ended up at the vets again but some antibiotic eye drops and vitamin injections did the trick We also have 2 cornsnakes (again my hubby's wish :roll: )but 1 has been AWOL for over a month so I'm not hopeful of finding him alive Last but not least, we have a cat

Good to see some new posts on here
I have Joel who is about 15 months old, had him for 14 months.
I'm another one who doesnt have many friends who 'get' beardies, but i dont care, i think they are fab! Im waiting to win the lottery so i can have my own reptile room :lol: :lol:
I live just outside London and am also a slave to Gordie the leo gecko.

hello to you all,i will do an introduction on the main page,are there not many people from the
uk here,does it matter ? from what i have been reading so far,this place seems so friendly !
not many placs like that around,some people on other sites seem to be so argumentative(sp)
at the drop of a hat,it's almost scary to post anything.
well i'm off to the main page to look around.
oh i forgot to ask,i didn't seem to see a setting for instant notification,so do i just rely on the option
at the bottom of this page.oh dear.darft question #1 perhaps.

Hi fellow uk people, i didn't think anyone was bothering to post here so i've been sticking to the main page. So Hi i'm Julie. Spyro is my girl, she's 8 months now and doing nicely, I'm getting ready to move her into a much bigger viv, so i'm trying not to be tempted to get another one. As it is i keep getting distasteful looks from mum whenever she visits, and my dad i'm sure is scared of her. Oh and im no teenager, i am middle aged with teenage children, so they think im having a strange faze, or something. A reptile centre opened up very close to where i live in southampton, my daughter insisted we take a look, i don't ( didn't ) like crawly things so eventually i took a look with her..... and saw my first beardys ....that was it hooked! now i handle all kinds of crawly hoppy things and im ok with it, its my daughter who wont touch anything. strange how things turn out :wink:

well i started with two leopard geckos,then saw an advert on the net for two leopards
which had the cutest faces ever,so umm i bought them lol so 4 leopard geckos,and a very happy
me,although my family just think i'm nuts too.but maybe that's the hot flushes. :lol:
then while surfing the net,i saw some pictures of bearded dragons,and i got interested,
and i have been reading as much as i can,i didn't realise there was quite alot to them.
well my better half is going to build me a three stack,so i can have everyone in one place,
instead of all over the living room.i'm still trying to price up my equipment.

oh wow four, i have 1 leo so far but will be adding, i'm not sure what sex she is at the mo but hoping female then she can have friends soon. But i must say spyro is my favourite, i cant help it she's always looking at me wanting something, or doing something daft, where as my leo sleeps most of the day. having said that we still have cuddles and she's really friendly.

aww,spryo sounds so cute.
beware adding later stage leos,someone on anothe site i know,is having problems
in that they added another leo,and there are some problems going on.

Really, well i'll watch out for that, i'm going to take ruby to the reptile centre to check if she's a girl or boy and introduce them sooner rather than later. She's still very young, give it a go but if too many probs i know the manager will take the new gekko back. So i'll keep my fingers crossed.

bit of sad news today,one of my little leopard geckos died in the night,
he's been a littl lethargic(sp) for a couple of days,and i found him this morning
in the same position i left him in last night,and he's not moving,floppy, and he's warm
all over,so i guess the heat pad is just warming him through now.
