Hey guys.
We saw this add on one of our classified sites here in S Africa for a beardie for sale with enclosure for R1000.00. That was mad as the pet shops sell an adult alone for R1500.00 or so. I texted the guy, he didn't no it's sex, age , had no UVB . He said he got it as a gift and had it for 3 months and the lady before - about a year. Then he told me it just ate crickets, he thought it was a male and his name was Bob. My boyf and I made arrangements to take a look and I expected a bad looking dragon with some form of MVB having had no UVB for at least 15 months. We were hoping for a female as we would like to breed in the future and our only existing female is only 3 months and I'm not interested in breeding her EVER!!
Anyway, we got there and were quite amazed - a beautiful dragon ( a bit small for her age yet bigger than I thought) was sitting on a log in the tank no signs of ill health at all. We fell in love with Bob immediately and they gave him to us for R900! The poor thing was on this dirty looking construction sand stuff.
The next day we got the sand out, tiles in - a UVB and heat emitter in (its winter), put in a proper spot globe and bought new bowls and a thermometer. Needless to say this dragon should not be eating crix only at this age so we are letting him settle in and we'll start phasing the crickets out a bit and the greens in. He's already shown interest in them which is good. Oh yes - turns out she's probably female and her name is Sandy - cos of that gross sand in there.
So maybe one day when she is older we'll breed her if she puts on a lot of weight and grows a bit. We just want our 4 th edition to be happy.
