Hi everyone! I have been lurking for probably a month now and finally want to ask your opinion on our viv for lil guy.
Some background first-
"He" is probably 3-4 months old, we got him the day after Christmas as a present to my 14 year old stepson. My husband bought the Zilla starter kit for beardies and of course since then i have learned a lot and I am changing things up.
He eats about 6-8 crix a day and also salad. I was giving him spring mix, because that's what the vet told us to feed him, but after reading i am now giving him collard greens or mustard greens with a bit of carrot mixed in and dusted with Calcium. It's plus vit D and i have read that's not right either. Ugh.
So the tank is the 10 gallon and its 12"deep, 30"long and 12"tall with non adhesive shelf liner.
The lighting is soon to be an 18" Reptisun 10.0 tube with a household bulb. Until Saturday, it is the stupid Zilla desert uvb coil, which i hate and the blue day light thing which i also hate.
I feel bad but i need to be home during the day long enough to make sure temps are perfect and i can't do that when during the week i am at work while he is awake. By the time i get home, i don't want to mess with him while he is digesting before bedtime, ya know?So, I ordered my reptisun with the hood and finally it's in.
So i guess my question is this-
Is it correct to have the uvb tube right next to the household bulb and they both take up all the 30 inches of the viv? Eventually i will have a bigger viv for him, but he is still small and i have some time.
Thanks for reading. I really care about Lil Guy and i want to do the best thing for him. I guess i am just looking for reassurance that i am doing the right thing.
