So this is partially my fault. I had taken Boudreau out on the T-Rex leash which thus far has not been a problem. Well today he decided he wanted to go for an adventure and was getting really peaved that leash was holding him back. He displayed his beard for the first time. At the beginning of this ordeal he kept trying to go into a set of bushes that I would never have been able to get him out of. I was able to finally steer him further into the yard with the leash but continued to be aggressive and run off. Next he attempted the bush area with the groundhog hole at which point I had to pull back on the leash. Unfortunately I was dumb and didn't have my cell phone to call the roomies for a towel or something. Went to get him up after I thought he was calm enough but he was quick. My fault for trying to pick him up and also my fault for reacting when he bit because it tore a chunk of my finger and my nail. Surprised me that he had that much power to do so. It didn't amputate but could have. Cleaned the wound and dressed it. Will keep an eye on it. My roomies finally came to my rescue and was able to get him in a towel. Plunked him back into the cage. He calmed down after a while to ease the leash off and feed him some mealworms by hand. I was the dumb one here but still it shocked me. :(

Oh thats awful!

If its that bad you really should have a doctor look at it. It can get infected very easily.

If it looks to be infected I am definitely going. My first thought was to go to ER but after cleaning it up it looked ugly but sadly at this stage our hospital would have done the same thing I did. Flush, ointment, and bandage unless it gets worse. Thankfully not enough to warrant stitches. :)

Oh thats good at least.

So you think everything will heal back to normal?

I believe so, some of it I immediately lost feeling but we'll see what happens when it starts to heal. The exposed nail bed is what hurts the most right now. I am thankful it wasn't worse. I'm a tattoo artist and having something happen to my hands is my greatest fear.

Whew, think it's going to be okay. Looks much better today and I still have feeling in it. :D Boudreau has calmed down. I don't think I am going to take him out on the leash for a while yet. I have a spare tank I can put him in for basking. Natural sunlight seems to do the best for him. I have a UVB bulb but its just not doin the job. Hopefully will be building the new enclosure sometime next week and can set up the lighting properly.

So when I got home from work I put the spare tank outside so he could get some sun. As soon as I put him in the tank he was immediately aggressive, displaying beard and lunging. I don't get it. Does he not like outside now? I let him get some sun while I was working in the yard but then had to get him with a towel to come back inside. So confused. :banghead:

Oh you shouldn't put him in a tank outside. Especially a glass tank. The glass amplifies the suns heat and a dragon can easily overheat in a matter of minutes in a glass tank in sunlight.

It would be better to just kinda hold him if you could, or put him on a leash and let him lay down.

Didn't know that. He was only out there for 15 minutes and I kept half of it in the shade. I'm worried if I just hold him and he gets mad what do I do outside? I don't think the leash should be attempted again just yet. Had thought about a kiddie pool but he could easily jump out of that.

It might be best to not take him outside for a little bit then. The tank in the sun will do more harm than good.

What you might want to do, because it seems like your dragon isn't very tame, is just hold him around inside everyday. That way he can start calming down, and getting used to being handled.

It's wierd. He's been golden since he came to live with me ( 2 weeks ago ), fully grown I believe but no history on him. The day before he bit me he seemed to be content and the most active he has been.

If you're just trying to let him have explore time, here's what I did. I would block off all the things a beardie could get under or squeeze in between (like behind the TV, under the dresser, etc), shut the door, and let Curt explore the room. He was pretty happy with that, unless he was tired, at which point he'd just plop down in a corner and try to sleep.. then I'd put him back in his viv and he'd glass dance like the world was ending, lol.

I hope your finger heals up soon and doesn't get infected.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
