So I somewhat rescued Albi from an acquaintance who couldn't take care of him any more. She is pretty sure he is around 4 years old. I did my due diligence and have researched a ton on bearded dragons. I have had him in my care since February 11th. Since I have bought him I have bought him a new bulb for his heat lame (his had burnt out when I got him) A UVB lamp, and I have been feeding him mostly greens (kale, bokchoi, broccoli etc.) and crickets and horn worms and super worms (not all at the same time ) once or twice a week.
His shed started about two weeks ago and we are kind of in the home stretch all he really has left I think is his beard.
I have been giving him regular baths and been helping him with a soft bristled tooth brush and I haven't had any concerns there other than the fact he only swims on one side at a time.
After his bath today I put him back in his viv and left him to heat up and have his dinner (kale). After a while I missed him and took him out to cuddle and he was lying on my chest and his mouth was gaping. At first I'm not going to lie I thought it was cute and weird and than I started to get worried. I know they generally only gape when they are regulating their heat so the fact is opening and closing his mouth is quite odd. Than what really scared me was he made a sound I had never heard before it sounding like a wheeze and than I started listening more carefully and I could hear a clicking noise.
Honestly I am really worried after reading the stuff on the internet and I called a vet (who did't sound very experienced with reptiles) and the vet said he could have just eaten too quickly or eating crickets is hurting his throat..
I am really nervous and now his beard has gone black/grey (not the same as when he puffs it) and his beard feels really rigid..
He is in his viv sitting really weirdly.
Please Help I can't sleep and I love him so much
