thanks, Tracie. We're still in the fighting stage right now. She was okay with the vet and my partner picked her up this morning. There was a little blood on her towel when I got home, but she had a yellow beard and looked was moving around a bit. She looked better after getting those fluids yesterday.

The good news is that she ate two syringes full of slurry (no protein in this 1st slurry, will add some tomorrow).... the bad news is she LAID TWO MORE EGGS!!!!!!!! Geesh, Grommet, I know you like to be high maintenance and all, but really! I'm assuming with the scarring and such they were in some spot they shouldn't have been and the vets missed them on the x-ray?!! Anyways, she strained a ton and laid them right in front of me.... I waited a bit and let her strain (heaven forbid she has more in there). When she wouldn't stop straining, I gave her her two shots (so I wouldn't have to disturb her again later) and turned her lights out to let her chill. Her ceramic light is right on her (she's wrapped in fleece) and she's sleeping. It's around 90degrees surface temp on her blanket. She didn't have much time to digest her food (15-20min at 95-100 degrees), which makes me worried, but I am still more terrified to wake her up with the lights. ARGH!!!!!! This is heart breaking!!!! She did bleed a bit more when she was straining after laying the eggs.... but not as much as yesterday. Oh, and although her insides came out a ton when she laid, it all went back into her vent after she fell asleep.... I'm thinking the meds are helping with the swelling.

I'm going to let her sleep and pray it doesn't hurt her digestion too much. I can't think of any other way to keep her from straining without a cool bath.

She's such a sweet girl and was soooo happy looking when she was eating the slurry!! It broke my heart when she started straining 15min later. PLEASE!!!! NO MORE EGGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't a girl catch a break?!!!

Kailin, I'm sorry you're going through all this! I have an idea how scary this is for you. Just the thought of my girls having eggs (infertile as we've never owned a male) is scary, especially when I read threads about egg binding or problems such as you have. It's normal for us beardie owners to be scared.

Wow, I had no idea this all happened since the last time I checked in. And wow she laid more eggs???? That is amazing. I hope that was her last ones as well. Still thinking of you guys and I hope she is doing better today!

PHEW!!! she's all yellow beard and super white belly this evening!!! I worked today, but after made a slurry with crickets, cooked butternut squash, acidophiliz, bee pollen, powdered calcium, a little multivits, collards and mustards, and water. She LOVED it!!!! ate a ton from a syringe and also H2O. I'm a super proud momma!!!!

I haven't checked her bum yet, but if she is swollen, it's only a little bit.... she's really calm and holding herself up in her basking spot (I put her there). I only want to pick her up once a day, and it's gotta be shot time, so after she digests for an hour I'll check on it! WOOT!!!!!! WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you Jennifer and Nancy!!! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update.... May seems to be flying by, I just can't seem to catch up =)

Grommet went back to the vet and had her one remaining vent suture removed last week, and the vet gave her a passing grade =) She had her last shot yesterday (luckily for me, cause she now recognizes the needle and has been harder to calm for the last three shots). She still won't eat on her own - I put a salad in her viv every day and have offered her crickets twice (she closes her eyes and lets them crawl all over her). So slurry it is!!! She is happy to lick it off a dropper, and I can feed her in her tank which is good - I'm still worried about disrupting her belly sutures, so I'm only picking her up once a day to mist her.

She actually laid two more fully developed eggs just tonight (I couldn't help but laugh - oh, Grommet). I got home, turned off her light, put down the blanket covering the front of the tank. 10 min later checked to make sure she was sleeping, and there they were!! There was also a partially dried remnant of what I assume was a fifth mystery egg. She doesn't look like she strained to badly (it happened so quickly) and I can only hope that those were the last ones. She looked calm and is now sleeping. huh.

The vet said Grommet could have another round of pain / inflamation reducing shots if I felt she was still trying to prolapse. I'll keep an eye on her tomorrow to make sure she her vent isn't swollen.

She isn't particularly happy, I must say (except at slurry time - those are high points of the day). She leeks urates, but seems to be getting her sphincter control back. If she is stressed, she immediately starts straining and pushes out little bits of poo (which are solid, which I am happy about) and/or urates.

The newest symptom is muscle spasms in her tail. It's really odd... can see the muscles twitching at the base of her tail to about half way down. I hope it is some weird symptom connected with the two eggs she laid tonight and will not happen again? Doesn't seem to bother her.... I hope it's not a calcium deficiency. Is it the fatty liver? I'll bring it up to the vet when she gets her belly stitches out on the 29th... sooner if it gets worse.

I think it's a waiting game at this point!! I just talk to her all the time.... she seems to like hearing my voice. Her color is back to normal, and her eye brows are back up - fat pads behind her eyes are noticably better (Yah!!) I think I'm lucky that she loves the slurry... it's helped her SO MUCH! She doesn't move around much, so her leg skin is a little loose - not as much muscle as before.

All in all, she's doing WAY BETTER than I expected. I can't tell you how happy it makes me when she pulls herself up and gets all bright eyed when she gets that first taste of slurry. amazing....

Hello Kailin,

Well, it sounds like Grommet is doing better, poor girl, but she still wont eat. At least she likes her slurry though.
I cannot believe that she still laid a few more eggs, geez! Hopefully her little belly is not too sore. Great to hear her vent has healed up well & has gotten the stitches out too! I hope laying the other eggs did not aggravate that area.
Her sphincter muscle should get stronger soon. Those things happen after a surgery like that.
They learn quickly I am sure she does recognize the needle now! Poor girl.
I don't think that the twitching of the tail muscles are related to fatty liver. It most likely has something to do with the surgery & the muscles getting their strength & control back now. Is her calcium intake good?
I am happy to hear that she is all hydrated now & seems to be doing better. She must feel quite a bit better though too. Keep talking to her I know she enjoys that.

Thanks for the update!

Hi again..... argh. that's all I have to say. argh. Grommet laid 2 eggs and a partially dried remnant on the 11th, one on the 12th, and 5!!! on the 14th!!!!! So, that said, surgery was not a success. However, there hasn't been any straining and the egg laying was quick and, so I'm happy about that. What the vet removed (loads of scar and reproductive tissue, but apparently only on one side) has obviously helped ease her egg laying and pooing. I took her in yesterday and they did an x-ray for free - she has two more eggs and the vet is sure that she has produced these after her surgery.

Both the vet and I agreed that she wouldn't make it through another surgery and we should let her heal, see if she starts eating on her own, and work on her fatty liver. She offered Lupron again.... I declined, although my partner thinks I should consider it if she could have less shots per year - the shot is really painful for her and she is lethargic and a black bearding lady for two weeks after.

I asked for liquid calcium, because I'm not sure how much she's getting in her slurry (most of it runs down her chin) I'm going to order silk worms to see if she likes them.... might coerce her into eating salad if they are mixed in.

All in all I'm worried..... I'm not comfortable putting Grommet in a lay bin because the sand/vermiculate might irritate her very open bum (when she poos/lays her vent has been through so much that it open really wide). She is laying in her viv (on towels) doesn't seem to feel the need to dig or bury, but she's dropping eggs, not laying all at once. I don't think there's much I can do here.

She's really mad at me today 'cause I tried to hand feed her her collards (she pooped on me) so it's back to slurry tomorrow! Oh, but she did eat 5 crickets on her own on friday!!! I'm going to get some rest and really enjoy giving her the slurry tomorrow (she could use some positive momma time after a lousy lizard torture weekend.... horrible slave I am)

Hope you all had wonderful weekends!

Wow I can't believe she can still lay eggs. I am glad she seems to be feeling a little better , but wow what a journey. I hope she gets better day by day!

Kaitlin,
I feel for you, my girl laid over 70 eggs over a month and a half. The first big batch she laid in her blankie on my lap. The Pooing on you -- that's GOOD LUCK!!! Wish you and you baby well.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
